I was looking at google's image today, when I thought it looked a little cool.

The first link lead to This.

I'm... a little dumbfounded. This seems quite the find.

    We're water on the moon
    We let you float pontoons
    But we got no place
    So we stay in space
And we sing our water tune

Reminds me of the time I offered some idiot $5 to drink some "dihydrogen monoxide" ('dangerous' chemical) and he refused. I didn't lie about anything, I just told him some choice facts such as 99% of all drownings are assisted by said chemical. He was stunned when I drank the whole 600mL in front of him.

That is quite impresive, 25 gallons. especially as they just wasted it all XD
But anyhow, there is a 1~2 molecule layer of water over the entire moon due to hydrogen ions hitting the moon from solar wind and reacting with the oxygen in the 'soil'

Makes my dream of being an astronaught and going to the moon all the more exciting "I'm just out to have a bath guys, I'll be back in a bit" :p

How can we prove that we didn't just compress the tiny amount of atmosphere around the blast zone into something that is very similar to water but not?

Because NASA scientists are cleverer than that. Way way clever than that. If they say they've hit 25 gallons of water publicly. They've hit 25 gallons of water.

If you read thir report of it here they talk about measuring the spectra of the stuff that came out. You dont easily get that stuff wrong. Every single chemical compound has its own totally unique emission lines, the only time they're ever changed is when the obvect is moving away or towards us by a big ammount. (ie. its doppler shifted)

What if we blew up 1,000 gallons and only got the emissions off the 25?

then they still hit 25 gallons of water! just because you hit more than x amount doesnt mean you didnt hit x amount :p
