Water flashes, flickers, freezes. Caused by new animated HUD

    This is for the benefit of anyone else who may be encountering this problem. I didn't know because I hadn't played a Valve map with water yet. Or if I did, I didn't notice it flicker. I finally loaded up 2Fort and sure enough, it was flickering like in my map with the animated character model turned on.

    I was going insane trying to solve this. My water was flashing, flickering, and sometimes froze. When it did, it spat out these kind of errors:

    No such variable "$fogcolor" for material "water/water_2fort"
    No such variable "$C0_X" for material "dev/halo_add_to_screen"
    No such variable "$fogend" for material "water/water_2fort"
    No such variable "$fogenable" for material "water/water_2fort"
    No such variable "$fogenable" for material "water/water_2fort"

    I've spent a week or so trying everything short of summoning Satan and selling my soul to fix it. In the end, it was just the new animated HUD. I've included as much info as I can so this will turn up in Google for anyone else pulling their hair out over this. :)
