Create a autoexec.cfg file in your \team fortress 2\tf\cfg\ folder and paste the following lines of code into it.

    Code:
    mat_picmip -10
    mp_usehwmmodels 1
    mp_usehwmvcds 1
    cl_new_impact_effects 1
    cl_burninggibs 1
    mat_motion_blur_forward_enabled 1
    mat_specular 1
    mat_picmip -10 (Ultra High Texture Quality. Low=2, Very High=-1)
mp_usehwmmodels 1 (Uses the models used in the Meet the Team videos)
mp_usehwmvcds 1 (Uses the animations that goes with HWM Models)
cl_new_impact_effects 1 (Dust, sparks, and other effects added to impact effects)
cl_burninggibs 1 (When exploded, gibs remain on fire)
mat_motion_blur_forward_enabled 1 (enables motion blur when moving around)
    mat_specular 1 (enables reflections)

    I should also mention this:
Go to Options -> Multiplayer and click on the Advanced tab.
Set Multiplayer Decal Limit to 4096.
This pretty much makes all bullet holes, scorch marks, and blood spatters last about 20x longer.

mat_picmip -10 is most noticeable on props, water, solder's sleeves, spy's gloves, scout's gloves

And make sure you have both mp_usehwmmodels 1 and mp_usehwmvcds 1 on.

Hey, using the Meet the Team models fixes the Pyro Class Menu animation!

    just a question?
For some reason it seems to boost my fps.
    Or is that just me?
Because i'm always around 30 fps on valve maps, and now i'm around 40 fps.:woot:

This is pretty cool, I use mat_picmip -3 because -10 gives me a like 40fps loss, and it's not really worth it.

I saw this on facepunch some month ago.

Dunno why you've (they've I know its a repost) have put mat_specular_1 in their autoexec, pretty incompetant seeing as mat_specular is one of the default settings in the vgui menu......
But yeah I swear by these settings, been using them since around the goldrush release and never looked back.

A few people for some reason have it off. Since there is no way to enable it in the options, I thought I'd list it here.

*shrug* It doesn't matter if you have it but it helps the few who don't.

I'm pretty sure the reflections option in the advanced graphics setings sets mat_specular to 1 when its set to "reflect all"

Question, I have an ordinary computer, not some fancy "I built this myself!" computer.

Will my computer explode if I do this? :U

I run TF2 at already pretty good framerates, and I felt no drop in FPS when using these settings.

Except, I play without cl_new_impact_effects 1, since that alone really kills my FPS

    Okay, mine rarely lags.

How do I make that whole .cfg thing?

on steam, go to your gamelist, rightclick team fortress 2, then go properties, then in the general tab click "set launch options", there you insert "-autoexec.cfg"

next step, go to "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\Username\team fortress 2\tf\cfg\"
there you create textfile and rename it autoexec.cfg

you can open this file in wordpad/notepad, there you paste in the console-lines you want to be executed on launch

so paste in the lines from the OP and save

now when you startup tf2, it will check the autoexec.cfg for commands it should start with

    voilá
