trying to make a biodome - need help

Ok, whatever way I try, vertices etc. I keep messing up.

Any hints on the best way of doing it? I'd like round ends and a rectangular center, or if that's too hard just a round one.

You should probably use a prop for that but if you are planning on somehow doing it with world brushes I'd recommend using this otherwise it will mess up between vmf file saves and loads.
