Toolbunker

    This is a small arena map designed for quick matches. It is meant to keep waiting while dead or sitting out to a minimum by having short round times.

    The players have about 30 seconds to battle it out before a nuclear launch warning is issued and the players are instructed to get to the center bunker. After some additional time the doors to the bunker shuts trapping everyone else outside. They then have a short time to attempt to kill the players inside the bunker via the windows before a nuke hits and kills everyone outside the bunker.

    This map features no control point in the center but the bunker serves to bring the players in from map edges and prevents camping.

    Wow, screens look very nice. I'll try and play test then give you my thoughts. The idea is pretty good, but I am skeptical about why the players who got into the bunker on time, would be the ones who are getting shot at. Shouldn't it be the ones on the inside should shoot the ones on the outside before they get killed by the nuclear bomb.

    the players inside the bunker can shoot back out too. But the players who are outside the bunker are going to be killed by the bomb and therefore they must kill the players inside the bunker before that time in order to win the round for their team.

    I really like this arena map. It has nice, fast paced action which is what I feel arena should be all about

    Brilliant Idea

    I played this on a server awhile back with 9 or so other people and nothing but hilarity ensued. A favorite tactic of the spies was hanging out with the Cloak and Dagger in the bunker and then trying to backstab and revolver everyone when the nuke blinds them.

    One major thing is your map is lacking a soundscape. You have some very nice custom sounds but, there is no ambiance.

    The main thing I remember was thinking the bunker looked a bit insufficient in its purpose of protecting its occupants from a nuke; with its open windows and wire doors. I think it would add to the theme if you replaced the wire doors with a metal door that closes as the nuke approaches and did the same thing for the windows.

    Also, I kept getting stuck on the concrete slab that divides the windows. I would recommend some playerclips in the windows to prevent people from getting stuck there.

    Gameplay-wise the map is a tad open; this favors scouts and snipers. But, as soon as the scramble for the bunker starts they are instantly weakened as they have to sacrifice their range and mobility to cower in the bunker. Heavies and soldiers could just hide behind the cover you placed near the bunker until it was time to move.

    I love the dynamic and hope this map gets picked up by more servers. It is ingenious and deserves more attention.

    Well, I think using a release candidate would have been more prudent and I still think you could make your map better. You made almost no changes from your last beta. Also, how much play testing have you had? I see very little commentary about your map here.

    The bunker still looks a bit silly IMO. How is the bunker any better at protecting
    us than our spawns? I still think it needs thick metal doors and shutters. Also, moving around in the bunker is still harder than it needs to be. I still think you should put some player clips in the windows to stream-line movement within it.

    You need some soundscape proxies. The soundscape only loads when it has a direct line of sight of your character. When you first load the map and sit in the spawn there is dead silence.

    The flash fades in very nicely, but then it just vanishes. I don't know how you put it in in the first place, but can't you make it fade out?

    I hoped to encourage further development and interest in your map with my last post. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was encouraging you to release it :(. I love the dynamic and still think you could develop it further; especially in the area of aesthetics.
