are there any settings I can change to get Hammer to run faster? right now it is fine on my map, but I fear that once it gets more complicated, I will have problems. For example, right now Hammer freezes on me after a few seconds if I open decompiled Gravelpit, even after turning the tool textures off. I have changed the draw distance for models, but what are some other ways to get it to run better? And no, I'm not asking about visgroups, I'm talking about settings.

    Thanks for the help

"back clipping plane" is the easiest setting, anything beyond the plane that's at this distance of the camera is not rendered. You can also uncheck model animation.

there is also an option somewhere on the program where you tell it how many undo actions to remember, the more you allow the larger the performance hit...I know its there...no idea where specifically...

use the cordon tool, gives you more control over what you want too see, the rest is not being rendered. great performance help when working on larger maps

if you have displacements with detail props, you can set the view distance of those as well, like the clipping plane.
