OK, so I am making a new space themed map. However, Valve doesn't have any space-station style textures included, so I am going to need to make my own. The problem is, I have no idea where to start. I have Photoshop Elements 8, and am pretty adept at it. If I could have any tips from people who know how, it would be great! Especially at making the texture TF2-ey, and just plain old starting off.

I am really having lots of trouble!
I just can't figure out how to make a realistic looking TF2 style tile.

Does anyone have any suggestions for existing textures that could be made to meet this?

Most TF2 textures are painted by hand. You cant get that look with a few filters.

Not just most tf2 textures, most textures in general.

Filters have their uses and all, but the age has passed where they were used to actually create the texture.

You don't need a tablet to paint textures lol.
