So, in this map i noticed that the lighting was strange, and saw that i had a leak in it. Fixed the area portals, etc, and now i'm stuck in a particular one: it starts in the area portal, get past a bunch of solid brushes and goes to the skybox. Wtf is that? (none of the brushes that it gets past are func_details)

I can post screens later if it's confusing

Your area portal doesn't have all four faces touching world brushes.

    Edit: I think. :S

    It's perfectly touching 4 brushes.

Are the brushes around the area portal a entity? - ctrl - shift -w then to make the normal brushes. - another thing, is the complete brush a normal texture, for example if a face is an overlay patch texture the whole brush will leak.

Do you use the cordon tool? It can give errors on areaportals.

    I've strangely fixed it.

So i removed this area portal, and the one in the other side of the respawn was leaking. fixed it. the next leak happened because i removed the other portal, added it again and no more leaks

    wtf

Are you sealing off the entire room? Like you understand that area portals need to seal off a "room" as if it was it's own little mini map and outside of it is the void right?

Not trying to insult you or anything, just making sure you are using them right.

You're sure you haven't messed up your brushes enough for there to be a small crack between two brushes ?
Otherwise, my first idea would be one side of your areaportal can be linked to the other side, you're sure you've shut down the entire area with areaportals ?

Your areaportal is leaking. Areaportals must separate two completely separated areas of the map. Imagine that one side of the areaportal is your map and the other is the void.

I had the same problem as the Original Poster and that most certainly is not the issue. If you go grab the base artpass map that Valve supplied and compile it the one area portal will leak (edit: just tried, and its not, so I am unsure what the real problem is) despite the volume it contains being separate from the other (two area portals in the two blue spawn doors) and not touching void.

The leak actually passes through solid world geometry.

The only way to fix it is to (remove* that area portal and) put the portals on the outermost gates.

*Not strictly necessary, but might as well. It's not going to be doing much.
