[SOLVED] Props (prop_static) not appearing in-game...

    Okay, straight to it! I've been making a map to test displacements, so it's not a huge deal, but here are some shots of the editor:

    And here are those same areas in-game:

    (I taunted so you could see that the collision for props is also nonexistent)

    So... yeah. These props don't show up. If it helps, the props in question are the torch from Egypt and the severed tree trunk from... somewhere.
    But the lack of collision indicates that the game is ignoring them completely.
    And, just to test, I placed a door prop, and that works fine.

    The only other props are some fence props which work as intended.

    IMPORTANT: I have checked the props' info in the model browser, and they are all the classified as the correct prop type. So... that's not the problem.


    Also, BONUS PROBLEM!
    This cave is made using pretty much only displacements:

    In-game, light appears to bleed in through the edges...

    Any way I can fix this? I'm assuming that displacements can be used to seal the map, BTW. If that's wrong... well, I'm a dingus.

    What entity are you using for those props? prop_static?

    Yes.
    (I checked each of their info in the model browser, and prop_static seems to be a valid option for all of them.)

    Displacements seem to be leaking because the lightmap on the wall is intersecting with the displacement on the ceiling. If you want to fix that you'd have to get smaller lightmap sizes (like 8 or 4) or block off the area above the cave with a block_light textured brush.

    And no, displacements can't seal the map.

    Okay, quick update: The torch now shows up correctly... I have no idea what I did. It's still prop_static, too... :|

    You haven't messed with any fade distances or such have you?

    Can you show us the entity window of the props that aren't working?

    Sorry, I'll have to wait around 24 hours before I can tinker around some more. =(

    I don't believe there are any more leaks in the map after I patched up the cave lighting (I dunno what made me think that displacements could seal the map, lol), and that torch that wasn't appearing before in-game now works fine... =/

    So only the tree stump is left... I must have accidentally checked a box or something, since that's the only prop with this problem now.


    btw Even though this problem still hasn't been resolved, I really love the support offered by the people here ~ what a brilliant community! :3

    ...And, uh, to answer your question better, Crash... I guess I'll take another look at the map tomorrow and scout it out for leaks~

    Oh, and, in case anyone was wondering, I have tried multiple times to delete and replace the prop. It didn't work... this was also previously affecting the torch, but after replacing it enough times or, possibly, after sealing the cave off from the void, it fixed itself.

    If it was fixed by me sealing that area, then I guess your suspicions would be confirmed, Crash.

    Sometimes if a prop is close enough to a leak, it just wont render at all. This might be what's happening.

    Alright, I'll have to pay close attention tomorrow when I look for the cause. I hope I don't, uh... lose the pointfile this time (which was what happened last time and led to me making an entire thread on it).

    Welp, this issue has been solved!
    Turns out, it was indeed due to the tree stump leaking... I forgot to seal the leak underneath the displacements in the outdoor area after I sealed the leak in the cave. =P
