Maybe one or two of you know that I'm working on a Quake 3 Arena remake map called "TFDM7", originally called Temple of Retribution or better known as simply "Q3DM7".

The question is, should I submit my collection of ripped Quake 3 textures? It may be a violation of the Terms of Service for copy right infringement, although the game did go open source. I'm not sure if that covers textures being legally rippable and used legally in other games.
    So should I?

It doesn't seem like a good idea. Typically, if you think it might not be a good idea, it isn't.

I doubt it would be a problem, as long as you don't try to profit from it. You could probably argue it's fair use anyways. I have a hard time imagining id going out of their way to do anything about it either, they seem pretty laid back (this map is probably more of a "tribute" anyways). Even if they did decide to do something about it, their lawyers would likely send a cease-and-desist letter before actually taking any legal action. In which case all you would have to do is take down the download links and not post them again, and they would pretty much forget about it.

    tl;dr - you'll probably be fine

Sure, you can submit them, but i know i would surely not use them. I have seen your map and i don't think that those textures fit very well for tf2.

You can make your map with it and use it in-game without any issues.

Valve will never buy it as it is copyrighted material.

    Most likely won't fit TF2.

Quake 3 is open source, it was also bought out by Bethesda.

I'm not taking down the link unless asked to by an administrator, or some ID official.
    Period.

it may be appropriate for you to calm down a bit. every single post of you makes me sad panda. you come off so aggressive and immune to feedback.
you are not forced to be here, you are not forced to release stuff in here and you don't seem to care about anyone or anything - so why even bother ?
you sound like you're bringing us salvation, yet we don't seem to know how to cherish you enough. if you're not having a good time here, maybe you shall find another place where people can better appreciate your work ?

nobody in this forum attacked you, yet you sound hostile and angry all the time - even when people helped you with a mapping problem.

I don't know why you wrote this post, it's not at all how I'm acting. I asked if I should submit this, a few people said go for it and I did so.

You're misinterpreting my posts, you may feel there is some cold rude emotion behind what I'm saying but there isn't. Such is the internets.

I was just throwing my two cents in because he posted this thread.
I am not sure if this was targeted at me but I am sorry, I didnt mean to come off that way.

Also i am not demanding that he removes it. You can do what you want because it doesn't effect me either way. All i was saying is that i would not have posted it here or anywhere because its not yours to distribute and its unethica. The quake 3 engine is open source but the content is not open source. Thats why openarena exists.
