With my Windows laptop just about reaching the end of its life (I hardly knew ye) the only thing I can use now is my Mac. Only problem is, Hammer isn't compatible with OS X and I don't have the money to afford a new Windows CD.

Some people in chat recommended I run Hammer through WineSkin, but despite extensive Googling I can't find any tutorials on how to do so (well, I found a couple but they were outdated and most of the links were broken) and fucked if I'm ever going to figure it out myself, being about as technically competent as a gingerbread man with no arms.

So if anyone could help run me through the process of getting it working (preferably before the 72hr contest) that'd be super duper splendid and I'll be really really grateful. (Probably should've sorted this out earlier, but foresight has never been my strong point.)

Turns out it's a lot easier than I thought. By running Steam through Wineskin I was able to get Hammer running with little issue.

In other words, yes, armless gingerbread men are technically proficient after all.

(That video had a part in helping me figure out how to use this bloody program, Suomimies, so thanks!)

Aaaaaanyway, I guess this thread can be locked now.

It would be helpful if you could explain how to do it. I resorted to Parallels because it was convenient but I would love to get that up and running for quick stuff. I just never looked in to it because it seemed complicated.

You just need to install the Windows version of Steam and then install it through Wineskin, using the same method used in Suomimies' video linked above.

That said, although I'm able to fully compile a map and run it in TF2, there are a couple of issues I'm still running into, namely that Hammer's display keeps getting stuck and will only refresh itself when I resize the window. (Adding the "ddr=gdi" Winetrick solved the display issue, but it also completely broke Hammer and TF2 so eh)

I might write a full tutorial on this once I sort everything out.

EDIT: Also, quick tip: if you run TF2 through Wine and notice that the text is messed up (e.g. about two thirds of the letters are missing) you gotta disable multicore rendering.
