CTF Resort

    Hi I am dermic and I am creating my first TF2 map! The map takes place at a Ski Resort up in some mountains somewhere (up by Cold Front). The map will consist of 2 main ski resort building with a river and ski lift in between ( one BLU and one RED). Under these buildings are secret bases for BLU and RED. The map is exactly the same on either side with minor decorative changes.

    This is my first Map so please give me constructive criticism and advice. :thumbup:

    It is still in the planning stage just in case I need to change anything before I begin to build. Your comments will help with this process so again please comment if you see problems with it. :p

    Looks like you've got some serious planning here, nice. However, I find paper and pencil essentially useless in the later stages of development - you might want to block this out as soon as possible. Also, people seem to dislike CTF maps for whatever reason, but don't worry, I've got your back, don't let anyone discourage you :D

    yeah I know I still have a ton of stuff to do I just drew up the plans this afternoon and decided to make it. hey thanks for the advice about CTF maps. I just picked a CTF map because I thought it would be pretty simple to due with my skill level in map making at 0. My Next map will probably be something other than CTF. Also about the paper and pencil do you know if Google sketch up is compatible with the SDK and if so do you know a good place I can get more instructions on how that works. Thanks for the support I am going to need it. :)

    I think it looks pretty open from the drawings. And I have nothing against CTF maps :p

    CTF has usually been sentry farm or scout rush mode. I'm more of CP and PL player, but sometimes I enjoy CTF for its simplicity.

    For paper and pencil I'd say you should use them a lot. Rethink your map with every "special" class (such as soldier, engineer): "Where would soldier rocketjump to ambush or where I would put my sentry as engineer. Is there enough cover from snipers?" I usually draw different scenarios and different solutions, but this is my way of working. Building your map in hammer is time consuming and frustrating if you notice something that could have been solved in paper stage hours ago.

    This kinda reminds of Midget's CTF map; the one with the gigantic middle and two bases plonked at either corner. Anyway, you can't have a middle that wide open in CTF because it will make it impossible to get the flag back once it's taken out of your base.

    Thanks for commenting everyone! I am currently trying new ideas for the map and will see if I can change or add things that will make it a better map. One thing I am thinking of changing is making the river deadly.
