As TF2 is a fun game i was thinking about a special map for x-mas. We all know the party hats and the baloons and maybe some wintersday maps would fit quiete well for TF. And i guess now is the time to start mapping to be done in december.

What i would like are some textures for snow, gifts & packeges and some decoration. Maybe a Santa theme for RED and a Grinch or evil snowman theme for BLU would be nice as well. If somebody would like to do that OR assist me I would be really pleased. Feel free to post additional ideas for textures and decals that could be useful for such a theme texture package.

Well, there is the ctf_snofort (http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=19). Don't know if you want something in the style of that one? (btw, quite a good map to play on too)

AFAIK, we have no specialized x-mas decals and textures here yet.
Maybe we can invent some x-mas playstyles too, like escort the sleigh... :001_rolleyes:

Well if valve get their act together and release goldrush we might just be able to do that before next christmas but I'm sure they said 'upcoming weeks' in the first week of december.... so stupid

oh wait, I don't know why I didnt say this last time i posted in this thread:

-Decompile existing valve textures using GCFscape
    -Open with photoshop
    -Duplicate the layer
-On the new layer open HSV (ctrl+U) and drop the saturation to 0
-Open levels(ctrl+L) and adjust the sliders untill it looks suitable pale but not detailless
-Use the eraser tool to rub out the top layer in a few places to make it look like the snow has not covered everything (Optional step)
-Save texture as VTF and make appropriate VMT

    hey presto - snow textures!

heh...nice guide, a shame I forgot about levels...could have helped my other textures <_<
anyways...i find anything colored white tends to look better if you add the smallest hint of another color, i usually use blue

    lol
not sure why we're talking xmas already, but my current map would be perfect for this
string up a few xmas lights, light a fire in the fireplace, make some hot cocoa, and let the killing commence
