This is something I would like for a project I'm doing but it's not essential. Thought I'd put the idea out there in case someone wanted to make one. One thing that may be an issue of sorts is the team coloring. Most fire engines are red, with airport "crash tenders" being other colors. Whoever makes this could do a blue version, but it might look odd. That said, there is a blue Ambulance in game already. Anyway, here are some reference pictures: Airport "Crash tender" version:
I've made a start on one It's not based on any one in particular, it's a mish mash of the reference images you posted. I'll update you as I go along with it.
Go FG! back at it again with the nice lookin' models! I've always wanted to start modeling with a fire truck, so someday I might try too. The third picture looks dope.
Pffff, who needs models when you can just use brushes* *That was sarcasm, btw: I appreciate models and model makers a ton for their work, and trying to make those details with brushes would not only create optimization issues, but also would look worse and increase the size of the file a ton. Props to you, FG!
Nothing like a Sunday spent unwrapping. I'll be giving it a paint over tomorrow then hopefully it should be ready for a compile!
A blue fire engine just looks wrong. I have seen yellow fire engines, and I know that there is a BLU shade of yellow in the official palette, so how about that for the BLU team instead of blue? Other than the blue color, this looks awesome! Good work!
After doing a few compiles, I've found that the model looks really bad in game. I'm going to put this one on the shelf for the minute since I don't want to release something I'm not happy with. Sorry guys.
bad in what way? post some screenshots and we might be able to help the model itself looks great to me, so i'm guessing the issues are more with the texture or material parameters than anything else
Please do post what you have done so far. And I agree with @MaccyF . How is it bad? Can you elaborate on that please?
Sorry if that last post came off a bit whiney. I haven't textured the wheels and lights yet, but I just feel like somethings off with it. Maybe its too sharp on the wheels? And the metal trim texture looks weird, maybe I need to redo the UV map on it and dedicate more space. Any suggestions?
It seems a bit sharp color wise over all which makes it too cartoony for TF2. There's a TF2 color pallet thing somewhere online that you could use to get the correct or similar color values and see if that helps.
tbh, I don't think it sticks out in TF2 in general, I think the firetruck just doesn't match that certain map. Though you should still give it a less sharp texture to fit those certain map.
