After a while of thought I came to a few overall conclusions about the game:
*I had fun, I enjoyed my self, Valve shipped and exceptional product--this is probably the most important part
*The environments, physics, characters, gameplay mechanics and animation--all phenomenal. Huge production value.
But:
The magic of the first portal was gone for me. And I think it's mainly because in portal, you're confronted with the uncertain, you start out and know nothing--and the story unfolds from there. You don't already know that the AI voice talking to you is going to end up trying to kill you, in fact you have no idea initially--
and then there's that magic turning point in the game at the end of test chamber 19 where she tries to kill you in the fire pit and you break the 4th wall by escaping into the ruins of the aperture facility. To me the first time I played that was absolutely MIND BLOWING--video games didn't do that until portal, at least not any game I can think of.
And Portal 2 didn't deliver that kind of thing until the very end bit with the moon, and even then it wasn't long enough to focus my attention and really soak in the realization of it. It was gone in a flash.
