pointless question?

    Enclosing the entire map in a hollow nodraw box good idea to prevent leaks, rather than no draw chunks around the map? Same with skybox?

    no, blocking off the map is better than creating a box around it.

    only if you want to make a quick test of a part of the map and intend to remove it later.

    You need to minimize the space to what's going to be visible to the players as much as possible, so unless your map is a perfect rectangle when seen from above, you should not encase it in a hollow box.

    don't make it a huge block.. make it by brushes. Simple brushes. This has to do with optimization now

    Never do this. If you for some reason absolutely must put a box around your level, use the cordon tool.

    well see i did that with mah square/rectangle map and it still ended up having a file size of 8 unneeded megabytes.

    I only use it so I can take a look at my WIP map without getting all trippy as I look into the void. When I intend to release it I'll do away with the skybox box.

    Most importantly, no areaportals would work and if I'm not mistaken it would as well screw up the whole visleaves structure. Horrible performance = not something you can afford in fps game. Leaks, don't try to befried them, kill it with fire.
