    Plains of quiet - Arena map set in a dried up sea bed

    “They say there is a mound, far out in the quiet. And in that mound, is water. The water you will need to survive the plains of quiet…”


    RED and BLU have chased far and wide, and have found it, only problem. Only one team can take it.
    Inspired by MAD MAX and the Spacecraft Cemetery. You and your team will duke it out on old rocket ships and mounds of sand.
    This was just a very small side project so i am not taking it too seriously.


    DEV note: this is alpha, and is in need in improvement. Feedback is very welcome!

    I think the open world approach you're going for is pretty interesting, and people will agree/disagree that the way you sort of approached arena design is flawed, but I think something that should be addressed is that the advantage on blue side seems really staggering! I would definitely have it be symetrical, and please, add a control point (cloak and dagger would be horrible on a map this large)

    Thanks for giving it a look!

    Making the map symmetrical is a priority, but i feel do to the fact no one is restricted to a path it is not needed. But testing will tell.

    As for blu getting an advantage, i was unable to play a few games with bots so i could not see who had an advantage, also can you specify specific points on the map where blue has the upper hand.

    As for adding a control point, i did. It’s the pump at the top. Sorry if it is unclear, i will add a sign or two.

    About bots; they're garbage, and really shouldn't be relied on for anything more than seeing if spawns work or something. The spire blu has can overlook all of red's cover, and red has no alternative- I think that's the maps biggest issue at the moment (and sorry for not noticing the cp)

    No problem! I will try to fix the balancing problem, but the spire is supposed to be the contesting point so how blue has control of it at the start of the game beats me.
    As for bots, i like to give a map one quick game, just to see if the basics all work.

    If Blu team spawns closer to the spire than Red team does, and if the spire overlooks more Red territory than Blu territory, then it is probably going to favor Blu team.

    Actually, it seems to be the opposite: Red team spawns closer to the spire than Blu team. The teams don't spawn near their rockets.

    so i opened the map up and looked at the spawn, and as for as i can tell, red actuality get there first. but i will keep looking.

    +Added awning things to spawns to prevent killing before round starts.


    +Added Buzzard tunnel under point.


    +Moved blue spawn to even start positions.


    +Added fencing to map border.


    +Adjusted rocket models.

    what do you mean. "again"? The first test was perfectly fine and A3 is not in line, and as far as i heard, the server was always having trouble. now yes my map was the last map seen before the crash, but nothing in the map was that different from A1.

    It's possible that there are some underlying server problems causing the recent crashes. However, given that this is the second time the server crashed while on this map, it's also likely that there is a logic/optimization issue to be fixed. The first things to check are things like spawn and gamemode logic, but there are numerous other less obvious issues that could be related. Just asking for you to have a look before adding it again.

    If you know a friend with a dedicated server (that's not bugging out), it may be worth asking them to run this map for an hour or two to see if it crashes.

    Check to see if you're using Power 4 Displacements anywhere. Those can cause map crashes when interacting with objects, so stick to Power 2 or 3. Look for excessive console spam too. Before blaming the server for the crashes, please ensure that the map is no way contributing to them.
