No need to be so pessimistic, my good dude! It could be a complete nobody this year!

Probably not, but it never hurts to hope.

There's plenty of good animators out there besides Winglet.

But he seems to only win.

It's like you. If you get to work on someone map, that map will win the contest or get into the game. So I don't see why people go into the contest if you already know who the winner 95% is going to be.

Before this gets out of hand, it's worth mentioning Winglet was only part of the Best Overall last year. As far as I'm aware, he wasn't involved in any other Best Overall winners, of which there are many animators among them. Same goes for every other entry in the past, there are many good animators in the community - Winglet's just a big name, but fame doesn't ultimately decide who wins or loses. Same goes for maps, cosmetics, or any other content-contributing facet of the community. Sit back and enjoy the other entries, in the meantime.

Well if you are still trying to reach that best overall its going to be nearly impossible due to the top 5 people keep getting the win. It's like with mapping why enter a contest if you know there is no way to winning? Yeah, you get a small amount of experience but you lose and you feel ashamed that you lost. What happens if you keep losing then what's the fun of entering if you know you don't stand a chance? So don't the team just hand out the wins instead of doing a contest.

Remember this is from my point of view. A person who tried everything to win at something but could never do it even if he put years into that one thing and keep losing to the guy at the top. It would make you don't want to do contest anymore unless you know 100% that you will win. I know that people will say " it takes time " but what happens if you do put into the time but you still lose.

So once again why do a contest at all if you know misty who is going to win Saxxy or Maps into the game.

I have won one contest in my entire history of being on TF2Maps. My map Probed was a 72hr map back when they were still contests events, it didn't even place. I worked hard and improved it (rather than sulking about "losing") and it later took first place in the MvA contest.

I was in your exact position at one point, starting at the bottom of the community seeing the "big names" making stuff I never dreamed of coming close to. But instead of pouting about not winning, I used every map as a learning experience and got better.

You shouldn't feel ashamed that you "lost" the whole point of these events and contests is to provide a fun way to learn and grow as a mapper. The fact that you manage to create anything and submit it is winning on it's own, plenty of people don't get that far.

You're too competitive, which is ironic since in another thread you had an issue with toxic competitive players. If all you are getting is a "small amount of experience" but a greater sense of shame for not doing better, either you need to adjust how you think about doing any creative work, or stop, because it's not healthy.

I have put things up onto this website and you said " The fact that you manage to create anything and submit it is winning on it's own, plenty of people don't get that far. " but when I do put a map onto here gets demolished and people I think sometimes makes me feel ashamed they I even posted the map in the first place. Also with the competitive I don't laugh at people who are doing worse then me. I don't try to be mean when I am in a game. I try to help within a game of tf2 and not just be awful and have a big ego and think I am god.

That's on you. Everyone has to get through the being bad at mapping stage before they get better.

Anyway, this isn't the thread for this. Consider the topic done.

I hope that the guy who made "the sniperspy" remasters and resubmits his opus to this year's awards.

I mean, look at this! It's a masterpiece.
