i apoligize first because this is the wrong site for this questin, but I couldn't find anyone else on the web who was willing to help, so here goes. as the topic suggests i am having extreme difficulty making a dark enviroment for my map. the map is for zombie survival. i set up my env_light and skybox to the settings i want, i go to run my game to test it and see where I am at, but I get extremely bright enviroments. I am not sure what to do or how to solve this problem, been looking online for about a week now. any help would be much appreciated.

Another thing I can't figure out is why I can't switch games in the source sdk selection menu, using the orange box engine i have 3 games to select from, but can only select hl2:ep2. thank you again in advance.

If the map is full bright you probably have a leak. Got to Map>load pointfile and follow the red line to your leak.

If there is none then I was wrong and there is no leak. Unloading the pointfile just removes the line.

    You need light not env_light.

Also remember to compile VIS and RAD to get lighted maps

but i thought once you build your skybox, you pick the setting of it from all the ones on the sdk resource website. then from there you place an env_light in there with the angle, pitch, and colors.

Ok. I have noticed the problem for a good while.

    It's light_environment, not env_light.

Or it should be. It is in TF2.

It works fine for me (compiling for tf2) you need to run with BOTH VIS and RAD (for testing, just set them both to fast)
