Need help with bot navigation!

    I've made a capture the flag like gamemode, where there's one flag in the middle of the map (a bomb) and whoever gets it, must bring it to the enemy base. But i have a problem. Every class except sniper and spy just stand in their spawn, untill you win, where they go to the enemy base to kill them. spies and snipers can pick up the bomb and bring it to the other base with no problem, but all the other classes just stand there! I have tried typing 'nav_edit 1' in the console and bots can go everywhere they're supposed to go. Pls help!

    Short answer: bots are dumb. Long answer: bots are duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumb.

    In all seriousness though, bots rely on certain entities in order to function correctly - objectives, capture zones, respawn points, basic stuff like that. The console should be spitting out errors if any such entities are missing.

    It may also be worth noting that bots just don't work on certain gamemodes, though last I checked they work perfectly fine on invade ctf (your gamemode) as well as regular ctf so unless you're putting some weird spin on the gamemode, that's likely not the issue.

    You know the Practice with bots option in the TF2 menu? You know the maps that are selectable? Yeah, those are the only maps you can play with them knowing they won't do the dumb stuff you said they do.

    And as Muddy said: TF2 bots are dumb. Dumber than dumb,

    Well, in my experience this isnt true. On upwards it is possible that in the first forward spawn all the bots run into the corner and stay there, but that is just a nav mesh error, not the bots doing dumb stuff so I guess what you said is true. Still though that is a dumb thing bots do.

    It's also untrue in that they work on gamemodes other than A/D, Koth and Payload - I've seen them work on all variants of CTF (but not Special Delivery) and all capture point gamemodes (including 3cp, standin-style and medieval, but not TC as far as I know). I'm pretty sure they also used to work on Arena but not anymore?? You could maybe fake it using koth logic though.

    Although support for ctf is poor the bots should just run to the capture flag and run back to their base using the most direct route with almost no variance. Have you checked for console errors when you start up the map? If there are no direct routes to respawn rooms I've seen bots behave like this.

    Bots know enough to pick up the enemy flag and move it to the matching capture zone, no matter how you place the two.

    Yes, and i know the mesh Works, because the spies walk around just fine!

    While bots do work on medieval, Medic bots usually just stand near players with their Bonesaw out (trying to pocket them but the Medic Gun isn't available).

    So there are no console errors when you run the map with bots? No red text, everything's working fine as far as TF2 can tell?

    Yeah, bots are horrible at using non standard weapons. They are barely able to use triggered ability items like the drinks and banisters.
