Hey guys, I'm putting together a portfolio and I'd like to hear your opinion on it.

    http://arhurt.carbonmade.com/

I know that I'm using carbonmade, but it's fast and let's me focus more on what I want to show rather on how :)

What do you guys think, I know that the focus of it is quite broad right now but I want to show how gaming in general is a part of my life.

I don't put any text and explanations at all, I will comment on particulars works on the CV, and I think that most of it is self-explanatory anyways.

    What do you guys think?

Very good! In the illustrations-section however, some of the drawings are reminding me more of fan-art found on deviantart :( You might want to remove some pieces there.

    Thanks!

Lol I'd say you are right about the fan-art/deviant art stuff.

Do you mean the GW characters (the guy with a cape and bow&arrow)?

Nice Arhurt, but I have some crits.
*It's not really clear what you want your job to be, I read "level design, game design, graphic design, illustration, 3D modelling", so that would make you a... 3D artist? Or are you sure about what you love the most, level design and environment artist (thats my goal :p )
So put that on a banner or something like most guys do!
*Put on EVERY image your site/email adress (what if somebody saves your art and zomg he can't find you back to contact you?
*Not sure about some drawings on your site, some are great and you show you can paint a fairly bit, but some drawings have anatomical faults in them that take the piece down tbh and make you look less good. You and me know both that you're not gonna be a concept artist so you only should show your best 2D work (and you have great stuff on it tbh)
*Ditch the sculptures. But that might be personal. It might show your painting skills in a way too but I personally wouldn't put it on your folio.

    But thumbs up arhurt :)

Thanks a lot people, I'll keep improving it.

I just trimmed down some sessions. "Show only your best". I'm going to add watermarks to all the images later tonight as well.

As far as the sculptures go, I'll keep them a little longer. If analytics shows that they aren't adding to the site, then I might take them down :p

Overhall I deleted some of the worst works and trimmed it all down.

    I need moar work!

No I missed the deadline and never came to even get something worth viewing. My mark in GW is here.

I'll see if I can find my backups and enter this new one. I haven't been on GW much since I started aerospace :p

Where did you learn, or is it all natural skill?

Lol I'm not half as good as you think. There are some inhuman artists out there.

But drawing/painting/sculpting/mapping.... everything in life is a mix of innate talent and practice, if you have no innate talent then you have to practice a lot more, but you will get pretty good at it.

And don't think that someone with a great innate talent will always outdo someone who doesn't have it.

Rule of thumb if you want to become serious at drawing is to study traditional traits like anatomy, observation drawing and sketching, the craft of using pencil/charcoal/digital tablet. And then add in practice, practice, practice and you can become a great artist!
