What annoys you the most in mapping? Whether it be gameplay, or having to readjust some perimeters just to get a door to function correctly. What absolutely just makes you want to throw the keyboard across the room when it comes to mapping/game development?

Mine: Scale, always scale. I always feel like something is too big or too small, and I'll end up fucking it up something within that area up, and I'll have to go fix it.

When hammer reports an error in the compile log that wasn't there two minutes ago, and you haven't changed anything at all.

Most annoying are all the non-standard errors that no one knows how to fix them (mostly the "windows can't find the file" one, that is as far as I know, unfixable)
Advanced mechanics can annoy me too, but I think that it's my fault, since I don't really know all logic functions. the specific entity 'func_rotating' is another thing that annoys me, because it doesn't really work with parenting too well.

hammer in 2014 lacking many features that unrealed had in 1999

also the fact that should i move on from tf2 mapping my lack of modeling skills will likely be a huge setback

When you create a non cube brush and you go to make a cube brush right after and you make a non-cube brush by accident and you delete it and then you make a non-cube brush again.

    Only me? Ok.

It's not unfixable. It's just not really telling you what's going on. 99% of the time there's another, fatal error listed in VBSP's log, and windows can't find the file because VBSP can't actually compile enough to write a file - so VVIS gets to it and can't find it. You need to look in VBSP's log and find out what you did wrong.

Also, back on topic - the one bug I hate most of all, more than anything else in hammer, is when you go to make a brush - but for some reason, one of the axis's reverts to 0, so when you hit enter it goes "Box is empty." and then for some reason, the brush-bounds expands to the ENTIRE GRID and you have to deselect and reselect the brush tool like 2 times to get it to reset properly.

I have two that annoy me the most, when using the vertex editor, every vertex un-selects it self when I go to drag it (surf map).

Also making spawn rooms and spawn room doors and the like every single time I start hammer for new maps. It gets repetitive.

the one thing that annoys me the most...

    the property window...

and the fact that your cursor has to be in that window if you want to type in any field UGGHH!

(I might be the only one with this bug idk)

When you have a large, important prop (think the Badlands control point hill) and not being able to see it well since it disappears if you zoom too close and gets covered in that Yellow/Red box if you get too far.

It took me a while to actually find that setting when I first did mapping, becomes so much easier over time.

some idiot who worked on worldcraft or hammer thought it would be a good idea if window focus followed the mouse. oh how wrong they are.

for me the worst thing about tf2 mapping is how impossible it is to make an interesting map that plays well. everything that works has already been done before, with a vast minority of exceptions.

The most annoying part about mapping for me is how long the final compile takes, when you're about to release a beta of your map, and then after finally waiting through all of that you realise you forgot something really important (like the clip visgroup) and have to sit through another potentially really long compile.

Working on something for over 20 hours and then just loosing interest in it. Seriously, this happens to me on a weekly basis. What are you doing brain? I have so many maps that I have never finished but have gotten so close to alpha 1. It keeps me up at night, unable to sleep, thinking about all the things I can put into my map, and then I wake up and I'm already not in the mood to map anymore.

I'm sure a lot of people can relate.

When you suddenly hit a roadblock in your mapmaking and just can't bang out a point design for the life of you. It happens in any creative endeavor, but it always hits me particularly acutely in mapping.
