My friend is devving a map for a server of his, and he's kind of new to the mapping scene. We (he) is making an edit to ctf_turbine_pro_b2, and we've pretty much got it all worked out, except for one (big) problem: the map clips off at one point.[IMG]

I have never seen this happen before. Do any of you have any insight on this?

I've had it happen to me before. The problem seemed to be that Hammer's render distance was cutting off parts of the map and preventing them from compiling. I fixed it by going into the options menu and turning up the render distance and clipping plane to max.

Hammer doesn't do this. (as far as I know)

    Turn off radius culling.

You probably have radius culling on. See the R in the red circle along the toolbar at the top? It's generally a good idea to keep that off, because it tends to lag Hammer and will cull anything outside its radius when you compile.

If you ever need to compile a small section of a map at a time, the cordon tool :cordonenable: is the way to go.

If your computer can handle it leaving radius culling on for huge maps while you work can be helpful. Especially if you intend to fly around to check multiple area's. Just make sure to turn it off when you go to compile.

I only say this because I use it like that personally. I don't lag when I use it, but I'm sure that's the hardware on my computer doing work.

I second this call for specs. My beast of a machine doesn't like radius culling at all.

Nothing terribly fancy. I didn't realize you guys were having issues with it, interesting. Maybe it's the render quality I'm using or something.

    Motherboard: ASUS (P8Z77-V LK)
    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K (Quad-Core 3.4GHz)
    RAM: 16GB (DDR3)
    Video Card: GTX660 2GB (MSI N660)

Your specs seem lower than mine and Crash's, idk how you manage it. For me it horribly slows down hammer and causes issues if i move the camera (and by proxy the culling radius) while I have an entity window open

Yeah it doesn't make a difference for my framerate, I tried it on a variety of valve maps big and small. I did notice though that I can't control the diameter of the culling sphere, I remember being able to.. hmm.

Polygons rendered on the 2D views are as costy as the ones in the 3D view. Radius culling is like the FarZ clipping plane, except that it works for the 2D views as well (and does some other shit).

Maybe it's culling away so much that your computer runs faster with it turned on?
