How do you they do lighting in tf2?

Iv looked at the official maps and they bearly seem to use any lighting at all, yet their maps look like they are fullbright....

Is there a tutorial for lighting specifically for tf2?

The outdoors maps use something along the lines of light_environment, which pours light out of any and every brush textured with toolsskybox. Perfect for outdoors scenes, since you don't generally have to do much work to get good lighting - it's indoors (or darker corners of the map) you'll have to worry about.

I believe the Valve wiki has a large list of all the skies HL2, TF2, L4D et al use, and the values you should set in light_environment accordingly. Use that as a guide... or somebody here made an ace environment reference file, DL that and just copy all the values Valve had set.

you either remove all lightsources in hammer or you open the console ingame and type mat_fullbright 1

Edit: I think you have to type in sv_cheats 1 first, not sure

And trust me, you DONT want fullbright maps. Dont be evil to your eyes ;)

No one will play your map if it is fullbright. Using entities, create light_env, or just light entities to light up areas. Experiment!

    really just experiment

i tend to give everything pretty even ligthing with just white light while blocking things out and will later change the lighting per area to suit how I detailed that area.

They use a light_env, which exudes light from the skybox. Just place one in your map.

Check out indoor maps, like Turbine, or Junction to see how they light indoors areas.
