I know not everybody uses them but some map designers have artwork somewhere on their maps (usually spawn rooms) showing who the map designer is. Let's see what everybody has. I love doing that type of artwork although I'm not the greatest. I threw this together in about an hour, mostly taking screenshots of the knife and gun and cutting them out with line tool. I would be happy to help some people with these if they want me to. Lot's of folks here have been very nice to me helping me with mapping feedback and info so I want to give something back, if I can. Thanks.

I have none. I think promoting myself through my map(s) is a bit pointless, really. I have put my Steam name in the map info page, though, so if someone really loves it and wants to see what else I've made (which is...nothing), they can just look there.

    Nice poster, though.

Download PSD (so you can alter it and use it for your own ends) http://filebeam.com/aa249e206c2243b2b69e990c3ebe0547
I think the PSD has both red and blue versions, if no a simple hue adjustement one one layer will get you a red one

Since I'm a purist I don't like the idea of having my stamp on a finished map, so I haven't got one. (instead i've got 'made by youme' on the info page)

no offence man but if i see a creator stamp in a finished map it always looks amateur to me. Regardless of the quality of the map.

None taken, but I think that is a crappy attitude to have. Afterall, alot of us spend countless hours doing this so the community can have FREE custom maps to play, and because there is a poster in the spawnroom the map is suddenly flawed or viewed in a different regard? Do you not see film credits at the end of movies or an authors signature on their novel? I don't see what is so wrong with putting a poster on a map. Now if you go pasting it all over which would ruin the asthetics of the map, I can see where that would be bad. But show a little restraint in your "judgement" on a map when you see a spawnroom poster because you damn well know the mapper didn't get paid to make it and it was offered freely to the TF2 gaming public. Just my 2 cents.

I suppose I look at it more from the perspective of an artist. As long as you own the rights to your work (as opposed to client/employer), you always sign your work.

However, no professional signs their work right in the middle of the canvas either, so to speak. I prefer to keep my signatures as unobtrusive as possible, usually viewable from the playing area but only if you're looking for it. Also, simpler is better in terms of the actual signature itself.

Here are pictures of my signatures in the source engine maps I've made so far except for ctf_revolution. Click for larger images:

As you can see, I believe in hiding them in detail rooms or putting them far away in places players won't often be looking. Or, in the case of shmitzchamber, you have to be looking backwards as you're propelled through a series of tubes that you can only go through once.

Basically, a signature is there as proof of authorship, not as self-promotion.

unless it is an unnoticable spot or signature without a name, a little logo or something.

Im designing a tf2 poster to hang in my spawnroom that will blend in the environment perfectly.

I like the concept of a secret room or easter eggs, they work very well and you can always put all the junk you want there.

Of course, signatures like those ones that Shmitz use works very well too.

And I don't really see putting a signature would make you amateur, you sometimes need to explain things on the signature so that's a good way to do it

there is a signature in one of the official maps, I think it is hydro, just a symbol, Thats how I know its the same guy who built the piranesi map for cs. same signature in that map.

    hah, thats awesome shmitz

I actually started work on a model that was a rotating logo i designed a few years back...it was mostly a way to try out the modeling program and I don't intend to finish it, but still.

Made this one for my map but it had to be YOUME his one before colt used it on his server.... -_- (no offense here ofc youme, the -_- is for colt :p )
I also did for my very early css maps graffity tags of my name on the walls, nobody notices it, it's just there. Like shmitz does a bit. I'm not a fan either of showing off the player constantly who made the map, nobody cares. Also, guys who write their name in brushwork in the skybox of their maps is the best.

Me too, I like Shmitz's idea. Once I figure out the best way to visually represent nine axes I'll do something like that.
