Right now, sponsorship is the solution for members who want to financially assist tf2maps. For their effort, they get the ability to upload maps, as well as some limited privileges on the server. They also get larger avatars. Many, I expect, don't care about server privileges, but everybody likes to look shiny in front of other people. With that spirit in mind I suggest micro-transactional avatar hats. Hats would be superimposed in their own <div> above avatars, scaled and positioned according to user preference. Here's a sample: The majority of hats could be priced the same, perhaps less than 5 dollars; those with javascript particle effects could cost quadruple or more the cost.
I like the idea of hats. I don't like the idea of micro-transactions, though monthly subs I'm okay with... also, would they be kinda limited to your avatar? Like with mine, there isn't really a defined head...
It's a cool idea, but most people who can afford it probably donate for the privileges of uploading maps or simply because they want to support the community. That's my personal reasons, anyway - I can't really talk for others but I'm not sure if more motives are needed.
Still I think he has a point. I think offering this as a reward for detonators is a good idea. Microtransactions not so much.
Only if you can pay for multiple hats and stack them into a grand pillar that reaches up to the avatar above you.
I will trade you my avatar's Unusual Map Hat with stamp particles for your avatar's Unusual Furry Hat with yiff particles.
ok let's pretend it's the exact same idea except I didn't use the word "micro-transaction" because that's a scary word that frightens people
