    Read the original announcement here.

Frankly it's kind of a petty thing to argue over, and in essence it just sounds like cries for a demo for the sake of having a demo. Still, if Valve even recognizes this outburst, it'd be quite interesting. I'm glad I joined this group. It's like Dawson's Creek over the internet.

I like how they label themselves as "staff" when it's just a steam group

Plus they have more important things to worry about than grumpy teens

That's what the boycott organizers sound like?

Why is anyone taking them seriously again?

    Ha. ha. ha. Not really.

Someone needs to go pull these L4D2 Boycott people's heads out of their butts. Seriously.

The game is still in beta. They're still doing work on it. They're releasing stuff to the press for publicity, because, well, that's what the press does. Releasing a demo of the game to a bunch of whiny teenagers who have already made it clear they have no intentions to buy it is like giving free kegs of your finest wine to Alcoholics Anonymous.

They sound like some kind of weird religious cult.

Also, Walking_Target's understanding of the complex art of not pressing the enter key twice after every sentence is beyond compare.

Yea, the computer game media industry works in a different way to other journalist media. Just because the "games media" have it, is no reason to demand it be publicly released. They sound like spoilt children, if they can't get it for free they want it ASAP.

I do agree Valve have pissed a lot of people off with this boycott, and that this content could easily have been introduced to the original.

Well.. i don't want to take their right to protest away, but they seem to be taking it awefully personally.

It's technically an 18 rated game, so people that age shouldn't be playing it anyway.

So, when we're shooting zombie scum... they'll be twiddling their thumbs.

    gg guys, gg

I don't get why everybody is pissed off. Valve thought that they would be releasing new updates for l4d like they did for tf2, and then they decided to reengineer some of the stuff, and use the maps that were probably already in production in a sequal. The only reasonably thing that people should be "demanding" right now is a slightly reduced price for people who already own l4d1 on their steam account. Anything else, and maybe even that, is over the top.

i can understand why they are mad, I mean if they announce TF3 for the end of the year, even I would be like WTF VALVE FINISH YOUR VIDEOS AND UPDATES. But even if that WAS the case, I probably would still buy Tf3 if this scenario took place.

But I can assure you that, despite all this protest, probably 90% of the boycotters are going to hypocrites on where they stand and are gonna buy the game anyways. Valves a business not the government.

I wonder if the changes would even be things you'd notice from playing. If most of the improvements were behind the curtain, even acceding to the demands might end up going bad: people who want to complain could yell there's no significant changes and how they're being conned, while Valve would basically have to just sit there and insist there's changes.

Still, I'm figuring this will all end up as lots of sound and fury, yet have no overall effect on anyone. That, and I look forward to the inevitable modifications to the L4D2 characters to make them look like and sound like TF2 characters.

    A la this:

Imagine Valve made the medic release as they have, and got arena mode out. Then made all the other class updates, map modes (payload) and new environments (alpine) as a sequal "TF3". I think you'd be pissed. Particularly since they stated to do otherwise.

    Backburner?

Only thing Im worried about in L4D2 is that the characters seem a lot less interesting.

Of course we still know next-to-nothing about them, so that could easily change.

I think what he means is that they're awfully cliché.

The original characters got reworked and redesigned several times each, to avoid this very happenstance. For example the biker used to be fat. And technically, we knew nothing about those guys either.

And of course the group boycotters fail to realize that it has nothing to do with significant changes to the game engine, and everything to do with wanting to be able to sell to xbox owners and being unable to deliver that much content outside a standalone game.

    Stupid consoles ruining everything.

Valve did bring this on themselves, to an extent. They only promised updates similar to TF2 to create hype and drive sells, and recent interviews make it clear they weren't sure what direction they would go post-release.

On the other hand, they don't deserve to be boycotted over it. I'd just like an apology from Valve for the mislead and for them to make it a point not to make promises they can't keep.

No one trusts Valve when it comes to releasing their products on time, I don't think they want it to be the same when it comes to what we get with the products.
