Literally First Map - This is the first map i have ever done, any criticism and ideas are welcome It´s been about a week since i started making maps as a whole, and just thinking about pouring my imagination into something that takes place in my favorite game ever makes this incredibly fun. This is my first chance to contact with the mapping community, to say that another map creator has joined, and that i hope we can work together as a team And since this is my first map, you can expect the most basic of features that a map should have, without it being boring, at least that´s what i think. I would like to know your thoughts about it, so i can get to work in the areas that i lack a bit.
Alright, I just ran a quick match after exploring for a second. The main problem I see, is that the point is just right in front of both spawns, and the moment you leave your spawn, it'd be very easy for an engineer to camp. The overall layout of the bottom is also a tiny bit flat, and just kind of boring after a bit (Not trying to sound mean, this is just what I think). Onto the stuff I LOVE! The upstairs geometry is really nice! Maybe move it downstairs, and make the holes full of water? I also like the fact that you included two exits which A) You can't re-enter and B) Are hidden, making it a LOT harder to camp them. Overall, I love what you're doing with it, and these are just minor things (I'm also new, and REALLY suck at map making ^^"). Keep at it, because you're goin places
Thank you Fluffycart I also tought that the bottom was a bit lacking, i´m thinking maybe adding some walls besides the one that´s just outside of spawn, or maybe changing a bit the geometry to give it some curves, And about the engi camping, i still haven´t learned how to disable construction on certain parts of a map, i know it's possible it's just that i don´t know how, but i'll get to it once i return home. Oh and about the holes in the upper part, would they still be viable for rocketjumping and stickyjumping if i fill them with water? I'm not really familiar with how water works in this game.
I was thinking of making that the bottom and make it pools, maybe secret routes. Also, to stop buildings, create a trigger block, and then use func_nobuild. It'll let you choose what you want built as well ^^ Also, maybe try moving the point to the top? That way, the temptation to camp spawn is lowered a bit, as they have to defend the point
Alright, this is a LOT better! I mainly have one complaint, which is that the pools seem to be solid, but are leaking. Maybe try using a water texture on a block?
Already tried it, i followed a tutorial and still it doesn't work, what i did was, create a block with the nodraw texture then with the toggle texture application in hammer apply the water texture to the upper face of the block I still haven't used every single water texture available, hopefully one of them works
No luck with water, i'll just put glass to the "ponds" for now, at least until i figure out what i can do
Update: Fixed nobuild problems in stairs, where the engi could build if it positioned the building just on the edge of each step Added "water" (actually glass) to the bottom part of the map Brightened some lights Gave color to some stairs Problems: Actual water textures appear as leaks in the map, i want to fix this and add actual water to this map in the future Class selection camera is in the void, find a way to fix this and move it somewhere else Read the rest of this update entry...

Update: Fixed very sneaky leak that caused the map to not load water textures properly Changed a lot of stuff (mainly brushes) and made them symmetrical (to make my self-diagnosed ocd happy), Lowered polygon count by removing excess brush cuts Added a secret pathway Problems: None (Thank gaben) And with that, NamePending is given my green light to go. On the second one, there was what I think is a white box clipping into the floor? Sorry it's hard to see. Best I could get

hey TheFluffyCart, i searched everywhere for the white box you mentioned, but in hammer and ingame there is nothing there, maybe just a minor graphical error on your side?
