KOTH Preview Day

    KOTH Preview - Thrusday August 13th

    Event will begin at: Thrusday August 13th

    GMT: 10:00 PM
    Eastern Daylight Time: 5:00 PM
    Central Daylight Time: 4:00 PM (GMT-5)
    Mountain Daylight Time: 3:00 PM
    Pacific Daylight Time: 2:00 PM

    We're going to be playing some of the existing community KOTH maps. The event will probably not last any longer than an hour or two. Chances are these maps may be heavily modified once the Classless Update is released. Come play and get a taste of what's to come!

    Format:
    - 20 minute timelimit on all maps
    - We're open to map suggestions

    Current Rotation: 2 Hours

    :drool1: Oooo Lighthouse, I'll definitely be there. I've never played Garbage day, although I've heard of it. Is it any good?

    EDIT: Just found out I'm going to the movies tonight, I'm afraid I won't be able to make it :(

    Lighthouse makes a great koth map, play it all the time.

    Garbage day is pretty good too.

    I don't think I've played waste (koth) version though.

    Never played any of these maps. The only koth I've ever played was koth_twisted which was a pretty good map.

    I love KOTH, but Garbage Day is really not a good example for how fun KOTH maps can be.

    that's why we're here to try them out :p I think all the KOTH maps play wildly different.

    Btw, event has been pushed back an hour. Turns out I'm going to be busy this morning. Hope it's not to inconvenient.

    I'll take a look at Twisted, Sandvich and Rainbow.

    I swear corporation was the first map to be KOTH, though it may have been garbage day. I remember playing it over a year ago and it was labeled cp.

    Edit: Did anyone else crash after the second round of rainbow?

    So, how many changes do the custom koth maps need to adjust to valve's pick on the koth gameplay? Or is it not that dramatic.

    I think the major difference is 2 clocks on the hud. They seem to be following the same ruleset. (3 min cap, etc..)

    I'm sure we'll have a prefab soon enough so it'll just be a quick delete/copy/paste.

    Until there is a prefab I made [ame=http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=8780]this[/ame]. It is pretty easy to setup so it shouldn't be hard for people to convert.

    I logged valve's setup.

    Valve's KOTH has more item pickups, larger maps, 24-36 second capture times, and dynamic spawn times.

    12 seconds for each team if the CP is neutral.
    Attackers wait 8 seconds, Defenders wait 16 seconds.

    Health pickups are restricted to areas further away from the CP, but ammo can be found plentiful anywhere, especially on the CP.

    hmm, hate to question it since I haven't played yet.

    But 24 sec cap time? I like the quick caps in lighthouse because the round ends fairly fast and the point is cappable. It also makes the entire team go for the point most of the time. Seems like 24 seconds could make it hard to cap and easy to hold, meaning first team to cap might control the entire round.

    I don't think I'll stick to those times in Sandvich for sure. Maybe in another map.

    To anybody who went to the event I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide some feedback on Lighthouse.

    Personally, I find it pretty damn overwhelming with everybody appearing from everywhere so I might end up fencing off some of the paths so there's a clearly defined line between your base and the baddies' base, essentially pushing everybody through the middle like on Viaduct.

    Guess I'll have to play viaduct before I really comment.

    But honestly I like lighthouse pretty well overall as is. I think all the pathways make it interesting and exciting. Blocking it off IMO would just turn it into a spam fest in small areas and hurt the map.

    (that's the second time I have pleaded for you to not change it)
    On top of that I haven't heard anyone with legitimate complaints EVER complain about your map and I've played it alot.
