I had this idea in my head for a little while, and I'm wondering what you all think of it?

RED would be the Mercs, on foot, and presumingly defending something.

BLU would all be in Karts, with a goal of going fast and reaching some sort of destination.

Since Kart racers are basically defenseless and the Mercs have all the weapons to their arsenal, the map design would be a difficult balance. Engie-spam can easily wreck the BLUs in if the map does not accommodate this, and classes like the Spy and Medic may find themselves to not be as useful as they should. Still, the contrast to the two playstyles of the teams can lead to a creative map idea. If we can make this work, it'll be certainly cool.

Another concept would be a survival scenario, where the Karts are trying to complete some looped course a certain amount of laps while the Mercs are actively trying to kill them, whether it's by setting up road blocks with sentries or by just shooting at them. Mercs would have prep time, while Karts would have powerups and multiple routes to traverse.

The other problem would be that soldiers and demos could easily blast the karts off the track, if the track is open. That being said, I'd play the shit out of this.

The second concept would be a bit difficult to balance, though, because you'd have to have at least some func_nobuilds to stop engie nests from being at every corner of the track.

What we (the skillsurf community) have been working on is a mario-kart style race (complete with rainbow road!). We have the timer, the VPS and everything all setup, just hardly any maps to add. A few simple plugins (remove weapons, add item boxes, etc.) have either been implemented or in the works. The same idea was just released on Gmod tower, for those of you who play Garry's Mod.

Competition is always good, and different takes on the idea is always welcome.

I have no problem with that, but I remember his post on aether, so I thought it might be worth mentioning that he is probably wasting his time.

That is not an attitude we like to have around here. No one is wasting time on anything if they feel like they are contributing something to the community, or are learning something new.

I'm not sure what you're on about, but we have that a lot on AM that people request or work on stuff that already exists. It's worth noting when people obviously don't know. I regularly get PMs of people who want me to do x or y and most of the time I link them to something preexisting. Doesn't hurt to give people a hint that there's already a rounder wheel around.
What they do in the end is up to them and up to you to apparently overinterpret. Information isn't a bad thing.
