From a few select posts here and a few results found when searching Google for info on this, it sounds to me almost as if the ability to trade found items between players in TF2 is up and active. I've seen a couple of postings here with people mentioning trading items around, and even more in Google results pages when searching for "Team Fortress 2 item trading" with people swapping Steam IDs, making bargains with 2 of this for 1 of that, etc. Is the item trade system actually functional as of right now? The last I heard of it officially was in Valve's old Sniper vs. Spy Update page where they mentioned it was intended as a future feature, and I can't find anything more recent suggesting its existence. Still, I can't help but wonder if I simply missed something since I see so many people out there talking as if it's already there and usable. If such a system is actually working as of right now, I'd really like to know how to use it so I can start swapping some weapons for hats rather than throwing out my duplicates! If not, I'd like to know so officially so I can stop wondering.
The trading system is actually ingame, but it's not fully enabled/working right now. There's some console cvars you can play around with that pertain to the trading system.
But dont think, anybody will give you a hat for all your weapons, because almost everyone has all weapons multiple times, while hats are still really rare.
Yea, most people are bound to get the weapons within a month of playing; and at a cost of time/effert, would probably just farm them in an achievement/idle server anyway. I can't remember when the original hat update was released but i've only got the Fedora, whilst i have pretty much every weapon 6 times over.
imo, it wont be added until all the class updates are done, more items to trade. So we still need to wait for the somoineer (Soldier-Demo-Engineer)
The Soldier medal thing was probably Valve's way of testing to make sure that item distribution could work for trading. It's a good way to make sure that Steam can handle receiving items while a player isn't actually playing, so that way there's no bugs where people trade their hats and suddenly they disappear.
And the medal didn't work well. Randomly not appearing in backpacks and constantly having to reequip it.
The medal really wasn't testing anything new. It was sent out just the same as any other item, just how robin gave a certain someone here a hat :glare:
