You know what i really want and i think would be very useful for texturers?

A tool (with gui) which has tick boxes for vmt properties so then if you ticked brick into the vmt goes $surfaceprop brick .

I think this would save time so tell me is there a program that does this and if not can anyone make one?

I dont think this is possible, you will need to extract the vmts out of the gcfs and edit them.

Some sort of thing is (not sure about $surfaceprop and etc.) the .VTF plugin for photoshop.

You can directly export .vtf's from inside photoshop.

Tick some boxes (Mip Map, Anistropic Filtering etc.).

    Plug-In: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=154&o=30

Maybe you could ask him, to add these functions, or just for the source?^^

He is talking about vmt options, not about vtf editing stuff ;)

Anyway this wouldnt make sense, as you would have to save the vmt again as a custom one, and this can easily be done by hand.

    1. He didn't say he was modifying stock textures
    2. VTFEdit can generate VMTs.

Um, try running tf2 in tools mode and use the material editor. I haven't used it before, but it should work.

Also i had another idea although once again it may be difficult or for that matter impossible.

A auto map optimizer (automatically adds hints and areportals to vmf's).

While you're at it, build a program that makes a top quality map for you!

Yes, the second is not possible, and if it was, meh. It would take a really important skill to learn out of Mapping.
