[INFO] Trigger_hurt damage types and effects

    I just made a quick test map to determine the effects of the different damage types available in a trigger_hurt. Most of them hurt the player at the specified rate, with the player making the appropriate 'ow' noises and spraying a little blood; but some are different. Here's a table of the damage types with different effects:

    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
    Damage Type Effect on damage Effect on death
    CRUSH Red tint to screen
    BULLET Thwack sound
    SLASH More than usual blood spray
    BURN Silent damage, player makes no noise
    FREEZE Train icon from Well
    FALL Silent damage "Fell to a clumsy and painful death" message
    BLAST Gibs
    SHOCK Sparks accompany blood spray
    DROWN Blue overlay on screen, player makes choking sound
    NERVEGAS Saw icon from Sawmill
    RADIATION Triggers geiger counter sound when player is near Gibs
    CHEMICAL Critical: damages at a higher rate and makes crit sound

    Does BURN actually cause fire damage? If so, does it set people on fire? Or do I need a different thing to do this.

    no, none of these actually set anyone on fire. which makes me sad. whats the point of a lava pit if people arent going to run around screaming on fire?

    Useful data that I would like to see added to this eventually: Which of these will result in a "So-and-so finished off Deadguy" message and which result in a straight death without any accreditation for the killer. I realize this is a bit more involved than just experimenting in hammer, but it would be useful to know.

    That's a good idea, shmitz. I'm currently experimenting with damage type stuff to improve the options on the trigger_hurt in the FGD so I'll look into that.

    When set on fall damage it doesn't seem to show the "fell to a clumsy and painful death" message..
