After I saved a map that I was making for the "Rule of three" contest I went to bed. The next morning, when I try to open the mapfile in hammer, it says that it's "BasePolyForPlane: no axis found" and it then closes the program.

Please, if anyone can, how can I restore the file?
Thanks in advance

[QUOTE="Change them to any value number (i.e. 3000) using a notepad to open the vmf.[/QUOTE]
How do I open the notepad in the vmf if I may ask?

oh, other way around. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Open the vmf in the Notepad application. If you don't know how to do that, that is ok. I will teach you.

If you're using Windows,
  1. Right-click the vmf,
  2. Click "Open with..."
  3. Choose Notepad as the application you want to open the file with.
Hammer saves maps as a .txt file before they're compiled, so it's possible to edit by hand in a text editor.

Ctrl+F will open a search box.

"nan" is an invalid number, so you want to change them to valid one.

For this procedure, I would search

"nan"

without the quotes. Make sure the "nan" is lowercase, and remember to check the box "Match case"--This will make it search only the lowercase entries.

From there, change nan to any number (I guess?). That's the solution I saw online, so... I hope that's accurate.

Good luck!

Hey, since you have a copy of the map, could you help me with something?
It's simple, the cart is about 2 feet of the track and I want it to be on the track, not floating. Are you able to help me with that?

I won't be able to do it for you, but I will be able to guide from a distance.

Easiest way to do this is:
  1. At the top of the screen, go into the dropdown menu "Map" (same location as File, Edit, etc),
  2. Click "Entity Report...", this is the list of all the entities on the map,
    • Be sure to enable all visgroups before opening this window.
  3. Click the first "path_track" on the list,
  4. then scroll down until you see the last "path_track" listed,
  5. Hold "Shift",
  6. Click the last "path_track" to select all of them.
Now that they're all selected, you should be able to adjust all of them at once.

(note for the future: There are two hotkeys for selecting things--
  • Shift + left mouseclick
  • Ctrl + left mouseclick
You can highlight items by clicking on at a time, or you can highlight multiple by holding Ctrl and clicking another item. Or even holding Shift and then clicking to two items to highlight all in between! Try it out--it works pretty much everywhere on Windows)
