It's ok when THEY take a shot at Microsoft with their 'Im a MAC' ads, but they cry when its thrown back.

Well in Apple's defense their ad's at least have reasons why to switch. They have to try very hard to convince people to even look at Mac's because they're a little more highly priced. Microsoft on the other hand just came out and said "Why bother buying Apple products, they're overpriced and you get less!" When Microsoft is already in the lead I don't think they really needed to do that. I suppose this is a viable campaign strategy but... meh.

I get the feeling that most of the people who have posted in this thread already had a hatred for Apple for unknown reasons, except maybe they think Apple is pretentious or something, I'm not sure. I personally like Mac OS and Apple, and the only real reason I use Vista is to play games. I'm probably the minority though.

i think a mac for everyday non-work is fine, you know for pics, videos, web surfing and studying and all that IF you have the money to afford a 2000 dollar laptop. The nice thing about Windows is simply you can have that without making a HUGE hole in your wallet. Thats what i got from those commercials really.

The thing that bothers me about apple is that they will tout a system that is priced at 3 or even 4 times its real price as being better than another machine that for $800 is equally matched.

this coupled with their fan boys makes me a little depressed.

I have my Mac Mini for Final Cut and stuff like that and it was on sale at Best Buy for $700 with 4GB of ram and Final Cut included so I just could not resist.

I can recommend a Mac to everyone who just uses his computer for basic tasks such as browsing the internet, managing photo's, editing video and word processing. Apple does most things in that category very well compared to Windows. Those things are what most people do with their computer anyway, so it's actually quite surprising that still very little people are using a Mac.

I'd use Mac OS next to Windows every day if I could run it on my own hardware of choice. But the hardware Apple offers is probably also the reason why Macs are so stable. Mac OS only has support for the hardware Apple chooses, whereas Microsoft offers support for a large variety of types and combinations of motherboards, processors, graphics- and audio-cards causing Windows systems to be potentially more unstable.

I like Mac OS X just as much as I love Windows, except for some GUI buttons and shortcuts. However, I simply can't run it because I don't feel like buying one when can build a similar Windows PC myself for half the price. (and yes, I tried to run a Hackintosh)

Apple seems to have a very specific customer following. My design course primarily utilises Apple Macintosh's. Whether this is down to a supposedly more stable OS or not is primarily unknown, but a possibility given the uses of the Mac's; particularly the 3d and video software.

Designer's seem to favour the Mac for a number of reasons, most of which seem to only be visual easthetics. Which doesn't exactly warrant the larger expense. But i suppose since they would have baught in bulk (and for an educational purpose IE a University) a discount would have been probable.

I suppose PC simply caters for the individual a lot better than the Mac does.

    How so?
In the least, both a MAC and PC do these tasks equally the same, except the PC does it $1000 cheaper. Not mentioning the sheer aspect of compatibility that a PC has as apposed to MAC.

For what i do i WISH i had a mac. Photoshop and websites.. I'm a shoe in.

But its also what i do that doesn't allow me to have a mac.. Game, downloads, applications, etc.

I'll be a Pc person forever, I have no hate against MAC, i think their ads are silly and pricing is off..

But what i hate about MAC's are the FANBOI!111oneoneeleven

Same I'll forever hate HALO, SSB, WoW and jonas brothers.

I think Apple delivers better software for those basic tasks. I mean seriously, Safari versus Internet Explorer? Apple Mail versus Outlook Express? iWork versus Office? iMovie versus Windows Movie Maker? Some of those Mac applications cost extra money, I still think they are superior compared to what Microsoft offers for Windows.

And what kind of compatibility are you referring to in your post?

good point. but if we are going to go down the route, both microsoft and apple are both losers here since open source version of almost any software exist. (and its usuall superior)

firefox, thunderbird mail, open office, etc.

Honestly, my hatred of Apple comes from the fact that their products are overpriced and you get less. Steve Jobs has actually told Apple developers to concentrate less on giving their products actual quality, but rather to just make it look cool and charge a lot. That's not a business philosophy I can support.

Ugh, yes. I have met so many designers who have such a blind following of Macs. Once upon a time there was actually a reasonably significant difference in graphics performance between PCs and Macs. If anything remains of that today, it'd be negligible in all but the most intensive applications.

And yet all these designers seem to think Macs are the be-all-end-all of computing. I can't figure out if it's some holdover from those days of old, or if they're victim to their own design sense and have been hypnotized by the cool factor that floats like a thick mist, obscuring the fact that Apple products are at best average in function and terribly priced.

But considering Apple's business philosophy is centered on illusion and trendiness, it's no real surprise that its most vocal supporters suffer from gross fanboyism.
