Alright, so here is my dilemma. I'm out here making my first map, a KotH map. I'm working back from the main point, and I'm happy with the central control point area and I'm okay with the second "zone" in between the point and the team spawns. My primary issue is the third zone in between spawn and the second zone. This is right outside spawn, very early of course. I have 3 ways out in a more traditional style yes yes viaduct I know. But just having this big old flat building and the empty yard is bugging me. Is this the best way to go about it? Or should this be a thing I should worry more in the beta phase?
Space isnt a bad thing if its done right. Look at viaduct or another koth map. I would load up viaduct in hammer and look at the distance between spawn and the first wall then compare it to your map.
It seems I may be miss judging the area, the distance from spawn door to the first wall on Viaduct is actually about 100 units smaller than mine! Comes as a surprise to me. I'll work at it a bit more to see how it turns out. Thanks for the response!
If the feeling of 'flatness' is a concern as well you can try displacing the ground a bit. Both examples above have a bit each at least.
