    I Have An Error when i open my map in tf2 it crashes here is the compile log i dont think its anything to with with the physics being too full because it was running perfectly fine before

    I googled your problem. This is what i found:

    You could be running out of memory on map load because of using power 4 displacements...

    WARNING: Map using power 4 displacements, terrain physics cannot be compressed, map will need additional memory and CPU.


    Change any power 4 displacements to power 3 and retry.

    Hoo boy, there's a lot of errors here. Let's start from the top.

    I recommend giving this a read. This is probably not the cause of your crashing, but an important error that should be fixed nonetheless.

    These are caused by your leak (the last error). Fix the leak and these will go away as well. This is also probably not the cause of your crashing.

    In most cases, the engine expects only two displacements to meet at an edge. However, in at least one part of the map, you've got more than two displacements meeting at an edge. Example:

    You have a lot of displacements neighboring other displacements- too many for the engine to handle, in fact. Probably related to the last error.

    This one can be ignored, it's a bug that Valve has yet to fix. It isn't an issue if you build cubemaps manually.

    Power 4 displacements, although technically functional, are a lot more expensive for the engine to use than power 2 or 3 displacements. This is likely the cause of your overly full physics and could be the cause of TF2 crashing.

    You've got a big long list of these "degenerate triangle" errors, which generally indicate that your displacement triangles (the pattern of triangles you see when you select a displacement) aren't actually triangles, because the vertices have been lined up in a way such that they either form a straight line or they're all occupying the same point.

    You're trying to use a static prop with a model that doesn't like being a static prop. Check under the Info tab in the model browser to see what prop types the model supports being used as:

    Again, probably not the root of your problem, but a good thing to note nonetheless because that means the ring_spy prop won't appear in-game.

    Alright, so we've gone through all the notable errors. The ones that are causing your crash are likely the ones associated with displacements. If I had to guess, you probably have one or more of the following core issues:
    • You've got some super tiny displacements, causing the vertices to be so close together that the engine can't distinguish between different vertices (Indicated by the degenerate triangle errors). This problem would be exacerbated if you're using power 4 displacements, which have tons of vertices. In this case, reduce the power and/or make them a lot bigger.
    • Instead of only converting the necessary brush faces into displacements, you're converting every single brush face of a displacement brush into a displacement. This is unnecessary: When making a displacement, only select the faces that will be visible:

      Notice how all of the sides are unselected. That means when you hit "Create", they won't be turned into displacements. Less displacements = less memory being unnecessarily used. This could greatly help fix your issue. To get rid of unnecessary displacements, select only the displacements that you want to get rid of and click "Destroy":

    • A combination of the above two problems: When creating your displacements, you made the original brush(es) very thin (not an illogical move itself, since for most terrain the sides of the brush will never be seen). However, you also accidentally converted the sides of the brush into displacements, resulting in very tiny displacements with lots of very close together vertices. If this is the case, deleting the side displacements as noted in my second bullet point is enough to fix the problem.
    • All, or a significant number, of your displacements are power 4. As noted above, power 4 displacements use significantly more memory than power 3 displacements- not just because there's more vertices, but because the engine can't do the optimizations and compression that it normally does for power 2 and 3 displacements. If you need lots of vertices to cover a large area of terrain, you're better off using four power 3 displacements, as seen below:

      This will allow you to achieve the same effect as having a power 4 displacement, but it will use a lot less memory and be easier for the engine to handle.
