ARENA Huaca

    Right, so this is my 72Hrs map. Of course, it is going to be improved upon. Allow me to be the first to admit that my map didn't turn out as I wanted it. Howerver, with work I believe it can be salvaged! For those that don't know, I based this map on "Yavin 4 - Arena" from Star Wars: Battlefront.

    A KotH version of the map is also being worked on simultaneously.

    Backstory:
    At the height of the Quetzchan Empire, a rather unorthodox method was used for selecting a new Emperor: Jaguar Wrestling. Candidates would fight with the belligerant beasts, and the last man alive was crowned Emperor. Now, these hallowed grounds are being fought over by two bands of mercenaries who neither know of or care for the thousands of years of history they are blowing up.

    I am going to address the feedback left at Gamedays, Impromptus etc, starting with all feedback up to Tuesday 19th July

    - The map does support 32 players at once, but how many are playing at a time is controlled by the server. I am also simultaneously working on a KotH version, which is what the bases outside the arena are the start of

    - Map feels fullbright for some reason, maybe make it a morning setting?
    - Needs more small health and ammo packs on the lower level

    - It feels fullbright? That's odd because it uses Well's light settings :confused:

    Prrrrresssstige! Pyro=Alien says:
    - Why would a bunch of tiny, random walls be a good design decision?
    - Nobuild area on the other side of the gates behind where you spawn
    - You can get outside the map

    Thanks Prestige! Here's what I have to say in response:
    - It's a part of the theme - a run-down, centuries-old arena in South America. I am thinking of ways to add extra height variation, if you have any ideas, feel free to share
    - I'll get right on that. Didn't think anyone would think to build on the oter side of the gate
    - I'm guessing they leave via teleporters, so the above fix should stop that

    Downgrade to med.
    EDIT: Also, with the ruined theme, the ruins wouldn't just all fall to the same height... adjust that height variation, add pillars/fallen pillars, etc. The main issue is the upper level, snipers can see 95% of the map clearly.

    It would probably be more fun, if it the z axis on the arena and the "viewer seats" were inverted, like the whole thing being a pyramid kind of structure. Would destroy your lore of the map though.

    Other alternative would be to make it a little bit larger and make the viewer seats not part of the playable area.

    Also the feedback system can't handle the ø.

    The ruins in the lower area haven't collapsed much. It's based on the Hypogeum of the Flavian Amphitheatre:

    No, I understnad that, and i realize that is what you are refencing. But your using Khmer theme with Roman influences, which, isn't a bad thing, but you might want to look around at mayan ruins, or aztec. The Aztec were a bit more "aggressive" so they might have some arena-esque structures.

    If you notice though (back at the pictures) those are REALLY tall, and the actual arena was ontop of those, that was just a network of tunnels for workers/slaves/guards to move around during the fight. and iirc, they floodded the area now and then for naval battles. But yea, those are REALLY tall, and your walls are... not.

    Yeah... mine's a bit smaller. It's important to remember that the Flavian Amphitheatre was the biggest stadium of its type anywhere in the world. Mine is much smaller. Also, mine happens to be based on Yavin 4 - Arena form Star Wars: Battlefront, seen below:

    Oooooh I see it now! (loved that game)

    but see how there is like an actual structure in the middle of the map? Maybe try for something like that?
