I am thinking of editing a valve map. However I fear of very long compile times. I'm guessing soem of you have already done this.

I am talking about those vmf's you get for free with source SDK.

how long does it take to compile an avarage valve map? (non-fulltbrith etc.)

20 days, you would be better off not editing a valve map ;)

I thought something like that. If it were a few hours, I could have considered it

I'd expect it to take about 30 minutes on my rig on Full compile without any of the other VRAD commands they use.

Under 5 minutes? Must be fast without vrad, right?

For me, Final quality HDR/LDR & good-shadow-settings is about an hour and a half, which explains so many releases at 3AM.

i think it depends on the rig. Valve showed what they have under the hood of their comps, and they are quite superior.

keep in mind this article came up AFTER the Orange box and during the Scout update, so I think it's safe to say that Valve's rigs were close to the stats on the leftside.

Valve probably uses the distributed vvis/vrad stuff.
