On August 31st WiNGSPANTT and 7 other Golden Wrench owners will commit a nigh unutterable act of brazen item-aggression so egregious that we shudder to think of the implications should the Administrator herself catch wind of it.

On that day 8 Golden Wrenches will be destroyed.

Just saw this. Rather disappointing that it takes a post from the TF2 blog to get people to donate to charity :/

...what? They got $5000 without a blog post. What makes you say that.

If more than 50 destroyed their wrenches maybe Valve would take a hint about all these rare items they keep introducing to TF2.

Halo's, Medal's, holiday specific hats... even the badges have been updated to garner the greater communities acceptance of such things.

Every "misc" item they introduce pisses off so many people and makes the game so tense to play at each item inception.

Still, at least something good came of it.

Apparently they were smelted using Montezuma's Gold.

I donate regularly to charity every year, it's just that 5000 dollars will probably become 20,000+ with this blog post, that's why I said it. Most people don't think to donate unless motivated somehow.

Im surprised enough that destroying a small meaningless tidbit in a 3 year old video game even got 5,000 to begin with. Good for them... but god does this show the foolishness of people.

This doesn't show foolishness, if anything it shows people are willing to help other people out. If you do a 5k run for charity, is that stupid? People run all the time, it's not the action that counts, its the fact it's for charity and to help out people that are more needy than yourself.

Obviously Publicity helps, to have their charity endorsed by Valve is great, it means more money will be donated towards the cause. If they achieve that via a sponsor from Valve, who cares?

Great Job, WiNGSPANTT, I've been your bro from the beginning.

Half-Life was still recieving Game of The Year awards when it was 7 years old. I don't think age has that much of an impact on (notoriously popular) games.

Also, the "tidbit" apparently not that meaningless. Sure, insubstantial. But not meaningless.
