No, really, this is the first German president EVER to quit before the end of his term.

    Kind of a big deal.

Well, in addition to all the highly amusing sidekicks to the medic's relation to germany (actually, the voice actor does the worst german-sounding voice act i ever heard in my life), I want to add, that our "president" is not compareable to the president of the u.s. for example, so it is not really kind of a big deal that he quits.
I'm rather suprised that it gets bandied about everywhere.

lies! I AM ZE MEDIC! Dumkopfs!

While he's not as important as the US one, I think you're underestimating his role: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_Germany#Duties_and_functions

On top of that he's the first president ever to do that, in the history of Germany. That IS pretty grim.
