A 3-staged Payload map I'm working on. Currently only have one stage.
Has no proper name due to current lack of general theme to name it after.
    Will rename later.

At the moment I'm waiting to get it tested.

You've definitely started detailing too early. Start by using dev textures. Also, last looks much too dark. Light it up.

    Why was it too early?

Your map's in alpha. Dev textures are usually used until beta. They are then polished before release candidate.

Yes, "usually used", is it some how worse that I put in actual textures?

If you use dev textures in your alphas, it will be easier to change your layout and move brushes around.

Yeah, it will save me 5 min if I have dev textures :/
I deliberately made it this way because I feel like I wont have to change any major part of the map so much, it didn't take much time at all, some people have trouble feedbacking properly on dev texturered maps, and it's way harder to find your way across a map you've never played if its dev textured.

I really don't understand how you can say I "DEFINITELY started detailing too early"

inb4, you're supposed to use dev textures as others said above, but hey, it's your choice.

a brush textured in dev is 200% easier to move than a brush with a regular texture

dev texture makes the brush shape more ergonomic and the brush goes along with the mouse even before you click on it

they just slide across the hammergrid as if they have been oiled

Absolutely nothing wrong with not using dev textures in alpha. While the map is pretty, I don't think it will be too difficult to move stuff around.

I find that the benefits are mostly psychological. If you don't use "real" textures, you're less likely to think of the locations in terms of what sort of places you planned them to be, and won't be too attached to layout decisions that turn out to be poor because you envisioned them as some particular type of structure and they already sort of look like it.

Agreed. There're few things worse in mapping than getting boxed into detailing by your initial structures. If something doesn't look right later, you've got to be able to change things.
