How does one format map name in the loading screen?

For example, "pl_badwater" is beautifully displayed as "Badwater Basin" in the loading screen when you connect to the server. Or "cp_freight_final1" is simply "Freight".

I've searched around for this but couldn't find a thing.

And about the game type map prefix. Does it being formatted in-game and you don't have control over it, or is there a way to change it?
What I want to do is have the game get rid of "surf_" and have it nicely displayed under a properly formatted map name as "Surf" or "Surfing".

I might have couple of things wrong here, if so, I apologize. Thank you for all the help!

These are hardcoded into the game by valve, we as mappers have no control over displaying a different name.

Aww, that's a shame. Nothing you can do server-side as well?

They are stored in a client-side file. No. The server controls what's on the server.

I don't think the information has emotions but it's okay for you to feel sad on its behalf.

You know, you can make your own loading screen images and mission briefing. Pack them in and they will work fine even on Workshop maps.

Of course, they only work after the map has been downloaded.
