It is indeed like this... Well, to say, sometimes masses prefer worse stuff in certain categories (for example, 30wave compared to well-round-done MvM maps and missions)
Average player usually never looks at map's detailing, only mappers do.

So overscaled maps are a good thing now? more map = more cake!
