MAP INFORMATION-

Title: cp_follower
Version: Final 1.0
Filename: cp_follower.bsp
Created By: David Lohmeyer - VilePickle
Author Email: vilepickle@gmail.com
Type: 5-point CP
Web: http://www.vilepickle.com
Compile Date: 4/24/09
Development Cycle: Beta 1 -> Beta 2 -> Beta 3 -> Beta 4 -> Beta 5 -> Beta 6 -> RC1 -> Final 1.0
Cycle Length Time: Approx 2.5 months with extensive testing

Description:
Follower is an original 5-point CP map influenced primarily by Granary and Badlands. The map is intended for a competitive setting first, though it should be fine for public servers as well since it is modeled closely after official Valve maps.

======================================================

FINAL 1.0 CHANGEs/FIXES:
-The steep slopes on each side of CP3 have had 2 rocks added to make their existence more clear (players sometimes got hung up).
-Small ammo added to lower 2-3 connector area.
-Small graphical errors fixed.
-Middle area optimized further.
-Slightly reduced the size of the sniper room looking out into the CP1 area so snipers weren't quite so powerful while far back in the room.
-Increased the width of the CP1 platform from the right sniper room so it blocks more of the lower CP1 area when snipers are inside the actual room itself. This should force them to expose themselves more to get better shots.
-Added a small basketball-themed section to the first spawn areas.
-Clipped railroad tracks at mid better.
-Removed a hiding spot at lower mid Cp that could hide a scout for back-caps too easily.
-Small ammo added to mid on/near CP.
-Fixed the CP's on the HUD capturing backwards.

Great map!

btw I got a kick out of all the comments on your blog about it being 'too much like Granary/Badlands'

Played it, it's great fun.

I'm fine with people taking inspiration and influence from official maps, but I must say I really don't like how much of the map is taken from granary and badlands. At least change it enough to make it not obvious.

Yeah, I'm quoted there too... "What are your plans to target the criticisms that this map is too similar to Granary and Badlands? If you do."

I thought that was a fair question. A lot of people have unfairly been critical of the map and I was curious to hear if you were going to alter the map in any significant way to make these people a little happier.

You didn't, and that's fine by me. I love the map.

I obviously didn't put your name in that list just 'cause yours was positive :)

But it was a good complementary addition to the others, hehe.

This map was kind of a social experiment for the competitive players too. They keep wanting the next popular comp map, and they pretty much exclusively play Granary and Badlands. I like those maps too, so I wanted something similar that combines good elements from them both. Granted, it does borrow things (several layout elements, albeit heavily tweaked, spacial dimensions), but those are kind of necessary for it to be what a competitive player wants (and they seem to want... Granary and Badlands). There's a lot in the map that isn't familiar, too.

I'm just sick of competitive players asking for new maps to play 6v6 with when there's a number of good maps that have completely original layouts too. Maybe they'll be happy with a different flavor of their "perfect" maps. Then again, Yukon does the original layout thing pretty good. I'll probably go there when I make another 5-cp.

My only real criticism of it, would be that in some places, it's just far too wide, and too difficult to keep tabs on the enemy team. I'm not sure if it's wider than Granary or not, but it definately feels that way. I'd expect scouts to dominate on this map.

It is a bit wider at spots, most notably about 7 player lengths around 2-3 connector since the side entrance is much different than Granary's. And the fact that the middle is turned on its side.
