ARENA Fairplay

    FAIRPLAY! Doesn't sound this name like music in your ears? This map is one of my Arena Mode maps and I finally decided to show you an example of my arena maps.

    First I would like to say that arena maps need to be simple, certainly when you use them on a dedicated server. For that reason I did an effort to make simplified maps as attractive as possible. That's why I preferred orange/grey brushes for walls. However, the used entities and objects make this map quite adorable.

    When I used the map for the very first time on the server we experienced so much fun, thanks to the mysterious watershafts, sawblades, a lot of tactically-furnished rooms AND most important of all: NO LAGS!

    For those who can't resist this map, just use this one to kill, trick, ambush whoever you want! Saxton Hale fits perfectly in this one! And the vagineer wouldn't deny this one either. And... euhm... for those who wants to know where an enemy could possibly hide?... Just take a look at some doors, some doors open/close parallell with other ones, very interesting for the smart ones in our mids!

    PS: Would you excuse me for the superfluous information displayed on the screenshots! ;-)

    This map looks massive. Waay too big, and with no alternate routes.

    Alternate routes are starting in both constructions at the sides of the pond.

    This map is absolutely the final edition, running perfectly for sucky pc's and lower server capacities.

    1/ This is absolutely the final and only edition of this map. Arena mode on dedicated servers are asking for such maps. This works perfectly for sucky internet connections, crappy pc's and it's good for my FR!

    2/ Sniper Boner? I guess our 10 classes too, inclusive Saxton Hale, should have a boner. The map has advantages and disadvantages for both parties. I should've took screens from the entire map, cause these ones are only showing the center court.

    Advantages can only be utilized if you aren't shot through the skull the second you leave spawn.

    Why post the final version in the workshop forum. Final implies you aren't changing it; meaning there is no reason anyone should critique this, regardless of how much critique it needs.

    You know how you could increase the framerate enough for proper textures? Not have ridiculous-large areas.

    This reminds me of a CSS gungame map, not a bad thing if it was, but as a TF2 map...

    You should include a big building in the center of the map that contains the control point. Not only would it break up sightlines but it would make optimising a hell of a lot easier and more effective, and it would give more vertical classes such as soldiers, demomen and scouts a noticeable advantage. In fact, all classes would have an advantage - even snipers, since they would now be equal (more or less) to other classes. It's certainly better than having an enlarged arena_2fort.

    This really should not be in Final, or even Beta. Maps in their Final stage do not have massive sightlines and literally no structuring around any class other than sniper.

    I think I've said this for the last 15 times on my map :p

    Seriously though you have goven one team and advantage of the other - both exteriors have to be the EXACT same - you have trees on one side and trees + a rock on the other - this is the unfair advantage on this type of map.

    So do you actually want our opinions or not? Because you've stated that your map is final which implies that you won't be changing it? But really, the map is way to large around the middle and what about spies; they only have one very small route unless they want to get wet which breaks their cloak for a while. It just looks like too much of a spam fest, you could say it somewhat takes the bad parts of 2fort. Sorry to be harsh but this is not a final version, its alpha at best and needs to be worked on.

    I'll say that the displacement part before the river looks aesthetically nice though.

    This map lacks indeed a lot, I think a good map needs a decent floorplan which allows to play with every class of TF2. I don't think I'll work further on this map cause this map seems to be hopeless. I'll give it another try on a new map. thnx for all the reactions!
