Update #3 I'm Back on this project again and I'm working on the yellow (YLO) logo now. here are some options, which one looks the best?

Update #2: I recently got back to working on the GRN logo and came up with this
    [IMG]
    How does it look?

Update #1: I have changed the acronym to GRN instead of GREN.

Traditionally, people propose GRN and YLO as the acronyms, since the precedent is 3 letters, if 4 was acceptable they wouldn't have shortened blue.
I can probably comment on the color tomorrow, as my monitor is in night-mode now and it would take too long for my eyes to adjust to where I could analyze it if I switched back now.

I think the reason BLU was shorten was to just make creating an abbreviation easier, while still sounding like blue. Without the E it doesn't sound like Green. Definitively a good point though.

Also I'm having trouble editing my original post and uploading screenshots. When I attempt to upload a screenshot it tries to upload it, but then sends me to a white screen. without a screenshot I get an error saying "You must specify a valid value for Screenshot #1".

As a designer myself i'll give you my technical insight:

-Very nice use of simulated perspective with the lighting and the letters.

-The lighting bolt could be slightly more yellow, since it has a very "lime" tone to it and loses contrast with the green background, don't make it too yellow either, just remove the green value a bit, don't make it too light or it will blend with the white letters.

-I really like the shade of green, it has about the same luminosity as the RED and BLU logos, just with a different hue, which works great, I'd say keep the green, but you need to add a little more variation, the shades are blending too much and the vintage dirt effect is not really showing.

-Move the letters at the bottom slightly to the left, that way it will fit perfectly on a grid underneath the Logo itself. (This is more of a designer's pet peeve but believe me it adds a more professional look to it).

Even though GREN looks and sounds nice I'd have to agree with Snark on using only 3 letters, when you think about TF2 teams GRN does give me the idea of green, but that would pose a problem to you (since you'd have to redesign the logo).

I don't think the pronunciation is an issue. "GREN" using english phonetics should be a short e, and "GRN" could either be said the same or like you would "gurn" but in both cases you have to forgo what is "correct" and say what it is.
If you went with GRN, I think you might still fit the lightning bolt idea in, by putting it in the negative space of the R.

As for the color, I think the green is a touch too yellow. Making it slightly greener and slightly less saturated would fit in with the red and blue more. That would also accomplish the lightning contrast Pablo mentioned.

I agree with Boojum, if you were to greenify the greens some more and Abbreviated it to GRN it would work.
As for the problem with the Pronunciation I think as long as you know it says green it'll mean Green, in the same way that we know Blu to be Bloo rather than Bl-ugh.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Right now, I'm working on a logo without the E. Because I no longer have "Electrical" in the acronym I'm focusing on "Radio" and incorporating an old time mic into the R instead of lightning. The lighting could still fit with "Radio", so if the mic doesn't work out I'll stick with that. After that I will change the colors a bit.

To be honest, the sign looks more business-type than a team. What I mean is, BLU is Builders Leauge United, it sounds more like a group of people than a service. It fits the art style pretty well but, the green background I think should be more vibrant, the other team colors are pretty bright I think. There isn't alot for me to judge on since I have yet to see a GRN/GREN building example.

Well hopefully it'll look different without the E. The 4 letters makes it look like less of a team logo and more of a generic branded poster.

Also, Verno, you can't know Valve's intention with the RED and BLU acronyms without asking them what their primary intention was. There's no data (at least that i've witnessed) to support it was merely for ease of acronym's sake; and besides, there are implications behind the fact that the "bosses" names are Redmond and Blutarch. Though that doesn't exactly help the dilema that GRN and YLO are less applicable to name related branding.

Communications and or logistics would be a reasonable branding alternative though in contrast to "demolition" and "building" that RED and BLU currently represent, respectively.

Clearly one is russian (or nordic perhaps?) and the other is an Asian name.

I also don't see what GRN or YLO team's architecture would be based on, RED and BLUE covered alot of bases

    I think that's what I'll do, thanks.

I guess I was more so hoping than assuming. :p

You mean like actual in-game buildings? Unfortunately, I don't know how to use Hammer yet, but I'd love to see some GRN Style buildings. I think it should be industrialist similar to BLU and than YLO would be rustic similar to RED. I"m not sure what other elements could be incorporated to differentiate them without being to strong.

Thanks for all the comments everyone! I will be posting a GRN Logo prototype soon.

    Edit:
Yeah that's for sure. Ultimately I think there's going to have to be some overlap. GRN could be mainly industrial and YLO could be mainly rustic, but each could have a pinch of something else. Maybe a little extra urban or futuristic elements for GRN and little extra Asian elements for YLO. I great way someone could fine tune the extra teams architecture would be to try and replace the 2fort base facades which are probably the most representative of the current architectural style. However, I think the most we'll see of extra teams is in posters.

I'm partial to GREEN and YELLO myself. To keep the "two teams, one name shortened so they're the same length" dynamic that RED and BLU have. Since they're both "new" additions to the game, it'll be understood that they don't have to follow the same exact conventions as the other two teams. (Plus, one of their names is a whole second syllable. Shortening it to three letters just seems unfair. ;))

Why would they be exempt from the naming convention just because they are new? The two teams-one named shortened is only coincidence, not a pattern.

Besides, i highly doubt Valve will even introduce green and yellow teams. They were only introduced for the "murder ball" game mode in TFC and TF2 has too much of a narrative focused around redmond and blutarch and them being brothers with a serious case of sibling rivralry to consider adding 2 more teams into the fray. It just makes more sense that way.

You mean YLO having an Asian style? That was unintentional. I was trying to come up with some distinct styles and I thought doing an Asian style logo would be fun.

Well these logos are definitively just for fun. the only implication I see for them is for a spray or a poster in a map. Maybe even a mod, but that's unlikely.

If you were looking for architectural styles, Yellow could be art deco, and Green could make heavy use of glass and modern designs.

That said, I have to agree with grazr's doubts. It has been established that RED control one half of the planet and BLU control the other half. Where do green and yellow fit in?

Sorry it's been so long, I have been busy with school. So anyways, here are a few options for the logo. While I'd prefer to go with Railroad (because it's more industrious like the other teams), I haven't come up with good designs for that. If I shift the direction of the letters from up to down I could possibly create the front of an old train out of the R, but it might be to complicated compared to the simplicity of the current team logos. The other options are Radio examples. Those are the old colors, but once I pick a design I'll start tweaking them.

I like it standing for General Railroad National the best. The logo with the train tracks on the R is my favorite amongst them.

Conversely I prefer the simpler ones. Maybe take that train icon and put GRN on it, like it's a logo, but fill the whole train up if that makes sense
