I tried to have a look for the bug on the forums and on the internet, but couldn't find one.

When I was playing around with the torus tool, i accidentally added a zero too much into the wall width section. After doing this, a pop up comes up saying Enter a number between 1 and 5000. It gives me no opportunity to change the number, no matter the amount of restarts of hammer or of my pc. Even on different maps, the options are kept the same. The pop up just keeps coming up until hammer crashes.

Is there any way to fix this?

I even tried to delete and redownload all files, but it didnt work. I am really stumped here. The problem is, I am not far into the project, but it seems to be happening on all maps, new or old...

    Please help.

I seriously reported this to a dev 2 months ago, and his response was:

"I doubt it's that important, who uses torus?"

Did you find out if anything got rid of it, or is it still the same for you?

This thread title is surreal out of context.

    "Enter a number between bug."

"What's the difference between a duck?"

Each leg is both the same.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but I couldn't resist. I'd say something on-topic, but I haven't a clue how to help you with this problem. I wish I had the answer for you, and I hope somebody here does.

What's the origin of that joke? I'm trying to remember where I heard it from but it escapes me.

Big Bros, have you tried launching Hammer from another location?

Not many people, and those who do should be using models for what they need it for, 90% of the time.

In the 6 years (shit, that long?) that I've been working with hammer... I've only ever had to use the Torus tool once... as a placeholder for a prop.

Yeah, thanks for the responses guys.

By launching from my school shit-top, I could make the torus I needed and then imported it into my map. Nothing I did however, fixed the problem. I tried everything from opening a new map, restarting my computer, deleting and redownloading the whole program, and even trying the CS:GO SDK tool.

But yeah, I am currently trying to use displacements and subdivisions to make a less resource intensive version of what I wanted.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

It was rather a statement of how much Valve cares about bugs, and not regarding the actual usefulness of certain features. Furthermore, he said it happens with arches as well, you don't use them either? :p
From my experience with hammer, you have to use models for anything "complex" *cough* due to decimal loss and what not. It's not even an engine problem, it's just the way hammer defines solids. It doesn't feel like a sane approach to use models in these cases, and you wouldn't do this in any other world editor. Makes me think hammer tends to teach bad concepts due to its bad design.

I think valve uses the registery for storing data about their tools.

The joke was already around when I was a little boy in the 70s. I got it from my Dad, and I have no idea where he got it from.

    Start > regedit
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Valve/Hammer/Torus
    Wall Width

    You're welcome.
