There's also this example which uses a newer particle effect.

Wow, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much :D

I've just started work on a new map for my server. Got a few things done so far, but I still got a long way to go, including making a Degroot Keep style battle area (which may be the only area that both teams can meet up in). I want to make some form of arrow-lighting brazier, so I figure I'll take what Degroot Keep has.

But I want to add some firey particle effects alongside some Ignite-damage trigger_hurts, tied to a func_button or trip-mine style thing that gets set off if someone runs on it. Traps are fun :)

Trey has figured out some stuff about those arrow-igniting braziers, so you might want to take a look at what wrote at the bottom of this page.

I know! So much awesomeness in the first 3 posts. :D

I've been testing out various particle effects to see what kind of fire would look good for what.

I've found that for small wall-mounted torches, the Unusual hat particle effect "superrare_burning1" looks pretty good, although as with most fire effects, it does fade out abit when you get too close.

I'm looking into adding some form of flickering light against the wall to simulate fire flickering, but it's gonna take alot of tweaking and playtesting to get right.

I may just leave the lighting as the last thing I do in my new map, once I've made sure I can fully disable fullbright (or as I call it "OH GOD MY EYES! IT BURNS!")
