    Hello,
I was wondering if there was any way to eliminate half life 2 textures from the browser when modding for team fortress 2. Thanks :)

Type 'tf' under the filter, that should work.

are you sure that you put it in "Keyword" and not "Filter"?

EDIT: Stupid Capellan, I had those backwards.

He means the keyword box right underneath it. put it there, filter checks the name only whilst keywords are in the vmt (material) code.

Also, when applying decals, they are always way to large, how do you make them smaller?

Apply your 'decals' with this button instead of the decal button. It makes it an overlay, which you can edit the scale of whatever you just placed.

As long as this is an ask-as-you-go thread, on the subject of overlays, how do you toggle between resize actually resizing them and cropping them? I've noticed sometimes it does one and sometimes it does the other, without any apparent pattern.

Overlays are only streched. They get cut off when they reach the edge of the surface. Decals, however, can span more then 1 face.

Not so @ boylee, they misbehave if you're not using texture lock when you resize them. Quite often I leave texture lock off and then forget to turn it on when dealing with overlays. A "doh" follows very quickly afterwards.
:texlock: turn it on to resize, turn it off to crop.

Also, you can distort overlays by selecting them (by the middle blue thing) then swapping to the overlay tool, you'll get white boxes at each corner, drag those around and you can smush up your overlay. veeery useful for tyre tracks.

I can never get them to snap to each other (other white squares on other overlays) :S am I missing something?

EDIT: never mind, actually read the VDC page properly :p Holding shift does something similar to the same effect.

You can add brush face's to an overlay by changing it 'sides' properties. When using select face hold the control key and click all the faces you want the overlay to be rendered on.
